I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman and Attachment Theory for couples therapy.
Beginning therapy can be a vulnerable and intimidating. It shows courage to reach out during challenging times. If you are new to therapy or you already started your therapeutic journey, I would be honored to walk this journey with you. I treat individuals and couples struggling with relational issues, life transitions, sexual issues, anxiety, depression and self-worth. Your story and life experiences are what makes you so unique. Whether you are looking to understand yourself or seek something healthier, I am here for you.

Selecting the right therapist and navigating a sea of profiles can be overwhelming. Hopefully, I can convey the essence of who I am, why I love what I do, and make it a bit easier. I am a therapist who brings both professionalism and a touch of quirkiness to the table, but I am also an individual who lives with anxiety and ADHD and knows that life can be difficult sometimes. Let's confront obstacles with a sprinkle of humor and a touch of psychoeducation, so we can address issues authentically and learn while we go. My favorite thing about my job is being allowed the opportunity to stand alongside the people who sit in my office.

By leading with tenderness & vulnerability, I meet people in their struggle, eye to eye. Together, we work to get your feet on solid ground so you can thrive in the everyday hustle of work & family life and reach your goals. I help empower clients to find their growth mindset & fill in the gaps where practical skills & tools are needed. Working with me is not for the faint of heart. It takes work to change the things we don’t like about ourselves. It takes grit to face obstacles that stand in the way. It takes courage to face trauma and build resilience. And I believe every human being is worth it.

I believe in the innate dignity of all people, and the work I do as a counselor is to encourage and empower people to live up to their personal values and embrace a more abundant life. When I work with a client I meet them where they are, without judgment, and enter into a working relationship built on trust, empathy, vulnerability, and communication. I have a person-centered approach to therapy, meaning that I respect the people who walk into my office enough to trust them to make decisions for themselves. I believe change is inevitable, but also, often painful, but that doesn't mean we can't work to find hope and grace.

I seek clients who are open to discovering their story and how it led them to their current circumstance. I am best able to nurture a relationship with a client who is aware of their reason for seeking support and is comfortable with a direct perspective to realizing their goals. My approach to working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families is centered on the philosophy that we are experiencing components of our personal story daily. When we conclude a chapter, it can impact the next chapter. By understanding our experiences and crafting our next steps, we can shape our story.

You don't have to be overwhelmed anymore. You do not have to feel hopeless, anxious and depressed all of the time. You do not have to struggle each and every day. If you're not feeling like yourself, I am here to tell you that there is HOPE. I know I am a total stranger right now, so reaching out might feel difficult; but I can help. It may seem near impossible to pick up the phone and arrange an appointment, but it will be worth it.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
