I also have extensive experience in working with those suffering from addiction or substance abuse.
The clients that I work with tend to be those who recognize a change is needed in their life or have heard from enough reliable sources to cause them to question the need for change in their lives. I equally enjoy working with both adolescents and adults. I have found a great deal of satisfaction working with teenagers and the unique problems they face growing up in today's world. I also have special interest in working with individuals and families whose lives have been affected by addiction or substance abuse as well as survivors of suicide.

My specialties are addiction, trauma, and first-responder behavioral health.
You don't have to be overwhelmed anymore. You do not have to feel hopeless, anxious and depressed all of the time. You do not have to struggle each and every day. If you're not feeling like yourself, I am here to tell you that there is HOPE. I know I am a total stranger right now, so reaching out might feel difficult; but I can help. It may seem near impossible to pick up the phone and arrange an appointment, but it will be worth it.

I have over 25 years of clinical practice experience in treating addiction (both chemical and process oriented), working with men who struggle with depression and anxiety, helping young adults merge successfully into adult living and helping strengthen healthy family relationships.
I enjoy treating individuals who feel "stuck" in their lives. There are many obstacles in life that create dismay and life dissatisfaction including phase of life issues, grief and loss, issues with intimacy and attachment, career dissatisfaction, unresolved family of origin issues and impulsive/compulsive coping behaviors to name a few. I enjoy helping people getting back to thriving and feeling generally content with themselves and their lives.

I work to build trust with my clients by creating a safe and therapeutic atmosphere while promoting autonomy, commitment, respect and support. Work I do with clients aims to answer the question, "How do I become satisfied with my life?" I challenge my clients to explore their lives with honesty, open-mindedness and willingness in order to uncover suffering that has brought dysfunction to their lives. Goals to practice positive life skills are specifically created to one's individual treatment plan and speak to issues such as depression, anxiety, adjustment/transition challenges, addiction, grief, loss, and more.

I provide evidence based psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and groups experiencing the complexities of life from issues related to relationship dynamics, coping with depression and anxiety, overcoming challenges with addiction and substance use, living with severe mental illness, and regulating complex emotions.
We all possess the ability for healing, growth, and self-development. Sometimes our efforts toward improvement need helpful nudges. As a therapist, I hope to join you on your journey in the here and now, walking alongside you, the challenges you face, and the growth you hope to experience. Of course, self-healing can be done alone, yet sometimes a therapist can be a helpful addition.

I've received extensive training in working with trauma, PTSD, Substance Use/Abuse, Depression, Anxiety, and Grief.
As a therapist and Director of Angie's place, I look forward to working with the brave individuals I serve. From my personal and professional experience, I value what it means to offer my clients a safe space of discretion and compassion. One that allows them to say what they need to say, how they need to say it, and to trust that they can leave it here in absolute confidentiality. My goal is to provide first responders and veterans, a direct and client-centered environment that includes an open yet goal-oriented plan of direction for healing.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
