I am committed to creating a safe and supportive space where individuals can explore their inner world, develop new coping skills, and cultivate self-awareness through the transformative power of art.
Have you ever struggled to find the right words to describe how you are feeling? This is where the creative process of art can come into play to help us identify our thoughts and emotions through artistic means. As a Registered Art Therapist and Professional Counselor, I utilize a holistic, person-centered approach to therapy. Through the use of various art modalities in combination with traditional counseling techniques, I help individuals tap into their inner creativity and unlock their potential for growth and self-discovery through both verbal and non-verbal means.

Working with a wide age range of clients & problems requires a unique set of skills. Play, art, & music therapy are often utilized with children as young as 4, while more traditional therapy can be helpful with adults. Concerns address in session may include: anger, attention, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, ect. Psychological evaluations are conducted to evaluate a variety of concerns. Helping each client develop skills to positively cope with current struggles and improve their ability to conquer these problems in the future is my goal.

A specialty that I offer is Expressive Art Therapy.
Raise your hand if you lie in bed at night, replaying scenarios in your head, and wishing you had handled them differently. Maybe you’re going through something that no one else understands. Maybe it feels like the walls are closing in on you. At your pace, I will help you process emotions and find clarity and meaning through self-expression. It would be awesome to increase happiness, manage emotions, reduce stress, and heal emotional pain. Create your inner peace by learning techniques that will help you be more present in your daily life.

I treat diverse populations and creatively engage clients beyond talk therapy through experiential role-play, art therapy, games, and meditation to facilitate change.
Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, sad, frustrated and uncertain are common human experiences that can leave you disconnected from your best self. I help my clients bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be by understanding their priorities through a collaborative identification of barriers, fears, and hopes. We design a treatment plan to develop insight about how internal thoughts and belief systems evolve from unique life experiences and influence current interactions and behaviors. Effective strategies to cope with limitations are then built upon a foundation of self-awareness.

When it comes to mental health treatment, our approach is simple and unique: our accomplished team of physicians and therapists work together to diagnose and treat your body, mind and spirit as a whole. We are one of the few practices combining traditional treatment with evidence-based alternative therapies, all under one roof. We are privileged to have changed the lives of many families in Chicago's North Shore, as well as out-of-state and foreign visitors. Our "whole body" approach to treating mental health conditions is supported by clinical studies. These include but are not limited to: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), diet and exercise, spiritual/social evaluation, yoga and art therapy. Many still focus only on the brain, treating symptoms, not causes. In many cases they over-prescribe medications. While our physicians do prescribe medications as needed, what sets us ap art is our commitment to explore all options. We search for root causes and provide the most appropriate treatment, not merely the most convenient one. When we do prescribe, we go the extra mile to customize a plan that minimizes side effects. You and your family deserve the best in healthcare!

I have found great joy in serving under the umbrella of Behavioral Health. I began my professional journey as a mental health counselor at Allendale Associates in 2013. I was passionate about my discipline, but I quickly realized the need to explore the correlation between behavior, trauma, and family in order to become more effective in my service and purpose. Additionally, the nexus of disciplines inherent in this helping profession, fuels my unequivocal appreciation for the dynamics of the home life and its impact on the youth; hence, I became a Certified Parent Educator and Licensed Professional Counselor.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed, not knowing how to feel better? If you're someone who has had a life-changing experience it can seem like the floor is crumbling beneath your feet. You feel like everything is uncertain and as if everyone would judge you if they knew how you really felt or what was going on. You feel alone, frustrated, and confused - stuck and wishing you knew how to move forward.

As a society we are constantly faced with change and uncertainty. Watching the nightly news, navigating social media, debating political issues and the effects of COVID-19 have all adversely affected how we cope and relate to others. Our ability to parent, have relationships with family and peers and to make honest and real connections, is constantly being challenged. I work with individuals (school-aged, preteen, teens and adults), couples and families. I understand that everyone communicates and connects in different ways and utilize talk, play and art therapy to meet my client where they are at and form a real connection.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
