Applying theoretical application into practice varies from person to person as I assess, analyze, and evaluate the “self” through one on one counseling, therapy, observation, active listening, communication, surveys, and much more through clinical intervention and exploration. My main focus is YOU within a deep, empathic, and respectful atmosphere TOGETHER we can discover who the “SELF” truly is. Displaying a welcoming non- judgmental environment while setting the primary goal to establish a therapeutic alliance through confidentiality, empathic understanding, unconditional positive regard, respect, and dignity.

As human beings we want to connect and find others who can understand us beyond a surface level. We're often faced with difficult issues such as anxiety, stress, or just life in general that we feel may be out of our control or we just want someone to listen and hear us out. It is my job to help you work through what you’re struggling with so that you can live to be a happier and healthier version of you. Whether we work together or not, it’s never too late to start getting help. With that being said, we can come up with a plan on how to integrate positive and healthy practices that’ll best help you.

Entering into therapy can be a difficult decision. My goal is to help make that transition easier by focusing on my client's strengths and abilities and encouraging a path of self-growth. I use a collaborative style, making the individual an active participant in the process. We will work to define the most serious problems, set realistic expectations, and focus on symptom reduction. My promise to all my clients is that I will respect them as individuals and work my hardest to improve their lives. The hardest part is often taking the first step, call to arrange for a free, no obligation 30 minute in person or phone consultation.

¡Hola! My name is Lupe, I am a Bilingual, English/Spanish, Licensed Social Worker (LSW). I am a proud Latina, bridging the gap for access to culturally informed mental health services within our communities of color. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services. I believe that at the core of a healthy therapeutic relationship acknowledging myself as a human first and a therapist second plays a key role. I take steps to create a safe space for clients to show up as their true authentic selves and feel comfortable opening up about their experiences.

Let me tell you about my vibe, I will tell you what I tell all my clients- "Im not the fluffy" therapist but I am your biggest cheerleader. I am not the therapist who will use fancy clinical terms, but instead I use totally random analogies that will probably make you laugh or even better yet, totally understand what Im talking about. I use sarcasm and humor but can reign it in and let my empath shine through. I work with many first responders and families in the community as I have a personal motivation to keep our heroes healthy. I have a direct client focused style and find major purpose in helping people find their worth!

Intervention Therapists

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
