Are you feeling lost, confused, maybe somewhat hopeless? If so, I help individuals, couples and families to understand and learn to deal more effectively with the difficult, stressful realities that lie behind such - realities that contribute to the anxiety, depression, anger and emotional turmoil that initially brought them to seek help through counseling.

I’ve been a psychotherapist, adjunct psychology professor, clinical supervisor, and trainer. My approach is collaborative, and I consider the whole person: we need to pay attention to our bodies, feelings, thoughts, and relationships. We often feel best when we have a sense of integration … congruency within ourselves, relationships, and how we operate with the world and circumstances around us. Our bodies and brains function as one, and I honor and deeply appreciate our body’s wonderful sense to do what it needs to do to keep us safe physically, emotionally, and relationally, and to detect any type of “threat” to our well-being.

Why do I feel like this? What should I do? The challenges we face can sometimes make it difficult to see a way out. I strongly believe that there is a way out. You don’t have to just endure it; you can be amidst challenges and find strength and purpose. There is transformative power in self-discovery. By embracing and integrating all aspects of ourselves we can live a life in alignment with what we value.

Do you ever feel hijacked by your thoughts or feelings? Like they have taken over your body and you can't seem to get back in control. Do you notice you keep ending up in the same toxic relationship? There's an explanation for that, and I can help.

I want to see the world as you see it, witness what you have done to survive, and help you remove the obstacles blocking your path toward growth and freedom. Who you are and how you behave are shaped by your experiences, thoughts, and beliefs. Although we can have gratitude for what has helped you survive, it may no longer serve you. I am a growth-focused and compassionate professional with hands-on experience in delivering practical and emotional support to a wide range of clients. I use an integrative approach to treat the whole person instead of symptoms attributed to multiple diagnoses.

Sometimes during your journey in life, or in the journeys of persons close to us, we get lost. Ideally, there is a book nearby when lost that tells us specifically how to solve life's challenges. If such a book exists, I've not encountered one. During such times, the practice of psychotherapy is often the "book" and answers we seek. Lilly is a licensed clinical professional counselor who provides therapy for adolescents, adults and families. Her caring and energetic approach involves collaboration with clients and if applicable, families. She integrates all aspects of a person to best help.

There are times when our life, or the lives of family members are no longer as enjoyable as planned. Sadness, arguments, anxiety, and substance use often occur when we experience ourselves going into a direction we don't like. During these challenges, the core of disagreements may simply be a different viewpoint on how a person should live and think. When your challenges become chronic, despite efforts to change, its time to involve professionals. When your way of thinking/behaving no longer progress you towards your goals....it may be time to make the call you frequently thought of making.

During my career as a therapist, I have gained the expertise in joining a person "where they are at" while developing an environment of safety, security and mutual respect. I have been told that my voice and manner quickly communicates friendliness and kindness, and that people overall, find that I am not at all intimidating and very easy to talk to. I provide an integrative supportive approach that allows for healing and growth. I combine Motivational Enhancement with Cognitive Behavioral interventions to assist in identifying the unique qualities and strengths of each person I work with to evoke change and emotional wellness.

Struggles are a normal part of life and sometimes we get stuck. I create a safe, comfortable environment for my clients that facilitates healing and growth. I value the relational connections that are developed through counseling. Working hand in hand with my clients, we combine my training and experience with their expertise about who they are, what brought them in and where they want to go. I help people find comfort in their emotions, equipping them with skills and insight in order to manage and benefit from them, rather than be controlled by them.

In addition to my Clinical Social Work Masters degree, I have a Masters in Communication with a focus on interpersonal and corporate communication.
Even the healthiest of individuals experience times when extra support can be beneficial. Therapy can be a wonderful support to help navigate life in a healthier way. I enjoy helping people explore how they would like their lives to be different and helping them achieve this. My clients describe my style as compassionate and non-judgmental but also very interactive, appreciating my willingness to hold them accountable for changes they would like to make. I feel it is my honor and privilege to be allowed into people's lives in this way.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
