Are you or someone you love experiencing the effects of addiction? Its confusing to know what to do, which then leads to indecision or feeling entirely stuck. Often, addictions stem from dysfunctional experiences in childhood. If you’re experiencing an addiction- or have a family member who is- then you can probably relate to feelings of extreme loneliness, struggles with perfectionism, avoidance of feelings, codependency issues, anxiety, and various types of family conflict. You don’t have to go through this alone. TOGETHER we can move toward healing these emotional wounds one step at a time.

There are times when our life, or the lives of family members are no longer as enjoyable as planned. Sadness, arguments, anxiety, and substance use often occur when we experience ourselves going into a direction we don't like. During these challenges, the core of disagreements may simply be a different viewpoint on how a person should live and think. When your challenges become chronic, despite efforts to change, its time to involve professionals. When your way of thinking/behaving no longer progress you towards your goals....it may be time to make the call you frequently thought of making.

I want to see the world as you see it, witness what you have done to survive, and help you remove the obstacles blocking your path toward growth and freedom. Who you are and how you behave are shaped by your experiences, thoughts, and beliefs. Although we can have gratitude for what has helped you survive, it may no longer serve you. I am a growth-focused and compassionate professional with hands-on experience in delivering practical and emotional support to a wide range of clients. I use an integrative approach to treat the whole person instead of symptoms attributed to multiple diagnoses.

During my career as a therapist, I have gained the expertise in joining a person "where they are at" while developing an environment of safety, security and mutual respect. I have been told that my voice and manner quickly communicates friendliness and kindness, and that people overall, find that I am not at all intimidating and very easy to talk to. I provide an integrative supportive approach that allows for healing and growth. I combine Motivational Enhancement with Cognitive Behavioral interventions to assist in identifying the unique qualities and strengths of each person I work with to evoke change and emotional wellness.

Feeling like you've been stuck lately? Do you want someone to talk to? We all need someone to understand us when we feel overwhelmed. I want my clients to be able to explore their vulnerabilities, stressors, & make positive & organic changes to their lives. Everything needs to be taken day by day & slowly. Nothing can be changed over night, but together we can work together.

I also have a specialty license called a CADC, which are unique credentials to help individuals manage addiction and substance abuse issues.
Even the healthiest of individuals experience times when extra support can be beneficial. Therapy can be a wonderful support to help navigate life in a healthier way. I enjoy helping people explore how they would like their lives to be different and helping them achieve this. My clients describe my style as compassionate and non-judgmental but also very interactive, appreciating my willingness to hold them accountable for changes they would like to make. I feel it is my honor and privilege to be allowed into people's lives in this way.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
