My theory of choice is Adlerian theory which is a holistic approach to psychology that emphasizes the importance of overcoming feels of inferiority and gaining a sense of belonging in order to achieve success and happiness. One thing that I really enjoy about Adlerian theory is that it is integrative and can be adapted for specific needs of the individual. It emphasizes techniques that promote growth and resilience and some of the techniques used in this type of therapy include: Providing encouragement, creating expectations, examining the purposes for behavior, examining memories, and an establishment of goals.

Life brings many stressors, and we could all benefit from a safe and supportive place to sort out our feelings and process our concerns. In counseling, I aim to provide my clients with a warm and non-judgmental space to be genuinely heard so they can feel free to communicate openly and authentically. Through my decades of experience I have seen that we all struggle with feelings of not being "Good Enough" in some way. Whether that is smart enough, lovable enough, or many other not enoughs. We form these beliefs during our lives and many things trigger that NOT GOOD ENOUGH feeling. We may react emotionally when the "not good enough" feeling is triggered. EMDR & Mindfulness are great tools to help calm down our emotions so we have better control of them. My client's say I have an easy going and personable style. I see many children from divorce, children who need to develop self-esteem, better coping strategies, improve peer relations and work on anger management. I have experience working with special needs children and behavioral disorders. I also see families and focus on creating bonds and opening the lines of communication. I see individuals wanting to lessen their anxiety and depression. I am a mother of five children and deeply believe in creating a safe environment for children and individuals to share their feelings and feel validated.

It is important to talk through the different therapy strategies with a client to determine what suits them and meets their expectations of treatment. I like using different modalities of treatment (like Dialectical Behavioral Treatment, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Client-Centered Interventions) and feel it is important to educate the client on these options so they can decide on what will work well for them. Regardless of the treatment modality they choose, setting realistic treatment goals is so important and will allow clients to see change as they work through treatment.
