Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to consider me as your therapist. My name is Katlyn Cizek and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I graduated with a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology in 2018 and since then I have been providing counseling services in various settings to a diverse population with a range of presenting concerns. I understand the importance of creating a safe space free of stigma and judgment in order to build a rapport before any deep therapeutic work takes place. I use a person-centered approach, which allows you to share personal experiences and process emotions at your own pace.

I'm passionate about healing the whole person, cultivating healthy decision-making, building coping skills, and striving to develop emotionally safe spaces of non-judgment for individuals to be seen and heard. I enjoy working with all people and specialize in trauma (complex, racial, and developmental), grief, transitions, identity, conflict, emotional hurt, and interpersonal relationships. My authentic self is rooted in values of honesty, integrity, and faith and I seek to build a rapport where my clients can also show up as their authentic selves.

I help men aged 18-35 who are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or lonely. If you’re turning to alcohol or drugs, work, or other unhealthy outlets to “take your mind off things,” you don't have to navigate this struggle alone. I support men to address the issues impacting school, work, or relationships, leading to improved mood, social connections, and goal achievement.

Dr. Nicole LaRocco provides mental health therapy to children, adolescents, families, and adults. ​ She treats individuals who suffer with depressive disorders, generalized anxiety, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, behavioral struggles, and more.

I love supporting People of Color. I also have a special interest in meeting the mental health needs and concerns of those that identify as Black and/or African through a culturally sensitive lens. I strive to really listen attentively to you and/or your child, help you make sense of how you or your child's symptoms developed, and provide an active, results-oriented approach regardless of which type of pain you or your child are in. I thoughtfully integrate evidence-based treatments to help reduce your symptoms as quickly as possible.

Completing challenging graduate degrees and clinically practicing in Social Work, Psychology and Psychoanalysis has provided me with a broad range of experiences with many types of people, enabling me to offer the option of psychotherapy or psychoanalysis as needed. These combined trainings and professional work have provided the necessary tools, perspectives and resources to address people's ongoing unhappiness, unexpected pain and crises and the sometimes stunning blows of grief. Areas of expertise include: anxieties/phobias; low self-esteem/depression/post-partum depression; complicated bereavement--loss of babies/children/parents/spouses; relationship conflicts--between adults or parents/child; and underachievement.

I provide individual counseling to late adolescents and adults, with a special interest in adjustment and periods of transition. My clinical focus is on issues of mood and depression, stress and anxiety, adjustment to life transitions, relationship distress, grief, self-esteem and identity issues, self-harm, and trauma-related issues. I begin with a person-centered approach - believing in each person's potential - and utilize strategies appropriate to each client's unique situation, including CBT, family dynamics, relationship building, relaxation methods, DBT, and narrative therapy.

My focus is on helping parents find balance, learn self-care, loosen the guilt and learn about their littles. I help those in all types of parenting roles with their new or changing identities as they're shifted into a life different than the one they once had. Parenthood brings to the surface a lot of old feelings and wounds that often need to be processed as well as figuring out which patterns are being played out from their own childhood and if there are any they need help not repeating. I have a specialty in babies, toddlers and preschoolers but assist them by working with their parents. I do 1:1 therapy with adults and kids.

As a therapist, I believe in the importance of building a trusting therapeutic relationship with each and every one of my clients. This relationship enables the client and therapist to safely explore any current challenges or stressors that the client may be facing.

I came to the Chicagoland area from Ohio to attend graduate school at Northwestern University. After completing my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, I worked in hospital inpatient units then transitioned to outpatient centers. I enjoy helping parents navigate changing identities through stages of parenthood, including helping clients who want to become parents but haven’t been able to yet. My specialties include anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders.

Our life's work is helping clients achieve a better sense of self and happiness...more recently we've recognized that without good mental health providers finding this balance in life can be more difficult and stressful. As a result, we tend toward and Integrative approach and have our clients transform into the people they want to be. We see each client as an individual with many parts to their identity. Utilizing a holistic and systemic approach we help clients reintegrate the parts of themselves to function better as individuals and within their systems. Our focus tends toward a systems based approach using behavior methods.

Reaching out to a therapist for help can be scary. As someone who has been on both sides of the couch, I understand firsthand how overwhelming the process can be.
