If only there was an "off button" for that part of us that says we have to be perfect all the time. That voice that says we can't ever relax and take time for ourselves, because there's always something else we should be doing. It's a lot of pressure to live under, and it's no wonder that you are starting to feel resentful, anxious, and very far away from the version of yourself you'd like to be. Perhaps you find yourself snapping at your kids, feeling your heartbeat get a little too fast, crying more often than you'd like, or flat out panicking at the way life has turned out. Wouldn't it be great if that off button was real?

Hi, my name is Dr. Celia and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who opened my practice to help those who want to make a change in their lives. I specialize in working with trauma across the lifespan, which is how I know how significantly our brains and bodies can shift after a difficult event and/or a series of difficult life circumstances. Therapy is a space for us to explore how our past informs who we are. Being able to form meaningful relationships is a key part of our mental wellness, but it isn’t always so easy to do.

Challenges overwhelm us sometimes. Relationship problems, especially, can cause self-doubt, depression and anxiety. You may feel alone in the world, but in therapy you don't have to be alone. Solutions emerge as you explore problems in a safe and confidential place. I have experience and training in resolving marital conflicts, parenting issues, anxieties, grief, depression and addictions. I have a great deal of understanding/training in working with individuals and families suffering from domestic violence.

Feeling stuck? No worries, I can help you with that. I am passionate about and specialize in working with adults who have experienced past or recent trauma (including, but not limited to, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and emotional abuse) who find that the past continues to affect their present. I am an LGBT+ ally and have an interest in being able to support this community. I utilize a combination of both solution focused talk therapy and EMDR to assist with processing through past and recent traumas. If you already have a primary therapist and need EMDR in addition, I am able to provide this type of support as well.

Mental health challenges affect everyone, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, or gender. You may have grown up being told that seeking therapy is a sign of weakness, but in reality, it shows courage to confront your struggles. Therapy can help you address hardships directly, preventing them from impacting other areas of life. Navigating your life's journey and finding yourself can be overwhelming. There's no shame in seeking help. I believe in the power of therapy to guide you through challenges, develop coping strategies, gain new perspectives, and utilize your strengths effectively.

I believe that therapy should be a journey that my clients and I travel together. I like to work collaboratively with them to empower them and teach them tools and resources they can use to help them improve their quality of life. I want everyone I see to feel comfortable so I try to provide a welcoming space free of judgment. I am passionate about caring for each and every individual who comes to me for care. I come from a more personal approach as opposed to a clinical one.

I work with anyone who has sleep issues, anxiety, trauma, rage, chronic pain, a phobia, grief...any emotional or mental issue, limiting belief, habit, or replaying memory would be great to bring to me. Those ready for this work want to dive deep into their unconscious patterns that have kept them stuck or sick. When one is aware of the power of your and your brain's potential but hasn't gotten the tools to flourish, NLP and parts work (I use Core Transformation) can fill that gap! Many of us do not know HOW to get to the results we know are possible, and a brain-based approach may be just what you need to solve your problem.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
