Now accepting new clients! When we are struggling in life, feeling stuck, hurt, confused, or alone, we all deserve a place to talk with someone who we know will not judge or shame us, but instead who will walk alongside us and help us create change, finding our hope and strength. I believe that you were designed to heal and you have everything you need inside you. If you are feeling overwhelmed, it's okay to reach out for help, support, or guidance so that you can move towards the life you want to live.

Now accepting new clients! I am passionate about walking alongside adults and couples on their healing journeys. I specialize in working with adults facing grief, anxiety, chronic stress, relationship struggles, and life transitions. As an existentially based therapist, I do not view myself as an expert on my clients (you are the expert on you!). Instead, I see myself as a fellow traveler in life, who knows that ultimately, we all need a safe space to share our thoughts, feelings, and fears. I provide this safety for my clients through my warm, compassionate, and culturally sensitive trauma-informed approach.

For over 20 years, I have worked with clients of all ages who are dealing with life difficulties and mental health problems. In a safe, confidential setting, adults, adolescents and couples have the opportunity to lay out their concerns and explore in a non-judgmental relationship the best direction for their lives. My primary specializations are in working with people who are coping with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions, and couples/marital problems. I accept most insurance, including Health Alliance and Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and am on a number of Employee Assistance Program panels.

When someone makes the decision to start therapy they are often looking for someone they can feel safe with and not fear being judged. When life presents different challenges it may be difficult to know what your first step should be. Therapy gives you an opportunity to explore ways to manage your symptoms and build your strengths. I would like to come alongside you and provide a space of safety, trust, and hope. My education at a Christian university also gives me experience in incorporating the Christian faith into my work with individuals who may be seeking that.

I feel that counseling is a path to wellness and positive change, in which the client is an active participant in the healing process. Counseling should not only address symptoms, but the whole person, mind, body and spirit.

I am passionate about walking alongside clients in therapy. We each have our own challenges and hardships, but we also have unique and amazing strengths! My goal in therapy is to help you understand what is and what is not working for you and find ways to connect, grow, and thrive. I have a particular interest in clients working through life transitions, spiritual struggles, and burnout related to caregiving.

I understand that asking for emotional help is one of the more difficult things you might ever do. I tell my clients that if they were in physical discomfort or pain they would call their doctor for relief, and to call a professional counselor is also a way to insure their health and well-being. With their hard work and my guidance I assure my clients that they will be able to work through past or current issues and will not have to remain stuck, that they can change.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
