I will listen with a compassionate heart, and I have a genuine interest in each person that I work with.

Under the best of circumstances life is not easy. Sometimes we face challenges in our lives and just need someone to listen, care about, and guide us. There's always hope for change and if you are willing to put in the work, there is someone willing to help and that someone is me. Having the courage to take the pathway of change is the first step. Together lets work to make a difference.

I’m Tonye Denise Lattimore, the curator of Get Your Mind Right Therapy Services. I work best with clients who have experienced relationship, religious, and childhood trauma (can include abandonment, domestic violence, rape) which has in turn affected how you relate to yourself and to the world. Trauma has a way of showing up in our relationships and within ourselves, oftentimes appearing as lack of trust, cutting other’s off, disconnects, addiction of all sorts, isolation, anxiety, and depression. If you are ready to do your healing work, I would love to partner with you.

This a group practice that employs clinicans of various ethnicities and backgrounds. People come to therapy due to feeling excessive stress at work, at home, or in their relationships. They find the pressures of everyday life have exceeded their abilities, overwhelmed their senses, and left them with an inability to cope. They are often having problems with school, completing tasks, getting along with others at work, and finding activities enjoyable. We believe in the resiliency of the human spirit, and that therapy is a process of exploring and getting to know oneself.

How are you? No really, how are YOU? How often are you asked this question towards yourself or regarding your family and you answer with “fine”, “great”, “we’re good”, or “I’m great”, knowing that couldn’t be further from the truth? Are you or someone in your family really fighting something that would take too much time or too personal to unpack with friends or family? Is it easier for you to pretend that things are great, hoping that they eventually pass?

Are you tired of feeling sad, hopeless, lost or just plain shitty? It's hard sometimes to find the energy to brush our teeth. Feeling like everything around you is falling apart and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You ask your self over and over, "Why can't I feel better?" causing you to feel so disconnected and searching for answers. Figuring out a way to quiet that voice that is telling you that you are not good enough and undeserving of good things.

Change is a process that begins with the way one thinks about things. We all experience times of darkness and deep sorrow. We experience anxiety and also struggle with life transitions. Healing comes when we take the time to share our stories, connect with our feelings, and explore our experiences. As you consider therapy, know that feelings of sadness, anxiety, shame, guilt, confusion, and longing are experienced by everyone. Processing what is troubling you can bring a sense of relief and balance. Self awareness can add purpose to your life.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
