I am trained in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) to help couples to reconnect; trained in perinatal mental health to help women in their life transitions; hold a certificate in Prepare/Enrich to help premarital couples to strengthen their relationship skills; and completed Gottman Level One training to help couples to communicate more effectively.
I provide a warm and nonjudgmental atmosphere so you will have a safe place to let your guard down and explore. You will be heard. You may be experiencing a "lost at sea" moment - which can be expressed in many shades of sadness, worries, or even anger. These moments can be circumstantial, or perhaps, you just can't seem to stop yourself from revisiting old challenges. We will identify that very pattern you get stuck and get to the core of the issues so you can start to heal and reach your optimal emotional well being.

Starting therapy can be trying process, and often what's important is finding the right fit between a therapist and a client. Once therapy begins, it can be an incredible resource where an individual may regain a sense of balance and peace of mind, build more satisfying relationships, develop more effective communication, as well as find the sense of direction and meaning that allows one to thrive. I also work as a forensic expert in women’s reproductive mental health and consult with legal counsel on criminal cases that are relevant to an experience in the postpartum period, this includes murder, infanticide, neonatacide.

These techniques can provide healing for individuals with various issues, including depression, postpartum depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, parenting issues, grief and loss, and life transitions.
Sometimes life presents us with difficult challenges and we feel lost. We may be haunted by trauma, feel stuck in relationships, have negative thoughts cycling around in our minds, and find that we are sabotaging ourselves. Changing life circumstances-both positive (like the birth of a child) or negative (loss of a job)-can cause anxiety and despair. I address these issues by fostering a warm and trusting therapeutic relationship where clients become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, make sense of their experiences, and move forward in their lives.

We start developing as parents way before our first is born and even before we become pregnant. We start developing as parents when we play with our dolls or play house and imagine the family we will have, the parents we are going to be. Sometimes our dreams do not become a reality. Whether you were diagnosed with infertility, experienced pregnancy loss, postpartum blues, depression, anxiety, or are struggling to connect with your baby. From conception to graduation, these processes are often emotionally charged and can take a toll on your life. Therapy can often provide the space and support necessary to regroup and recover.

I specialize in the treatment of adults and couples dealing with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, addiction, relationship issues, postpartum depression, and adjustment throughout the lifespan.
The foundation of my practice is a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental experience for individuals and couples to feel understood while processing the core issues that stand in the way of moving forward. People can feel lost or disconnected as they come into therapy, but the experience of emotional risk taking, opening up about fears, anxieties, malaise, within the individual or couple, can reinvigorate emotional connections and intimacy.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
