Reaching out for help can oftentimes be one of the hardest steps in therapy. Many of us function under the belief we should be able to figure it out on our own. Unfortunately that’s just not always true. We often build walls and create patterns just to survive. My goal is to help my clients understand all parts of themselves and uncover what parts may be holding them back; while learning tools to help break these disruptive cycles. There are no bad parts, and you (or your teen) aren’t broken. I’d love to help, feel free to reach out whenever you’re ready.

Are you a parent who is feeling overwhelmed by all of life's demands? Parents have it much harder than ever before managing family, schedules, work, kids, kids activities, kid/ adolescent behaviors, and all their ever changing needs. Our lives are full of stressors and challenges. These stressors often lead us to respond in a way that may cause even more difficulty. If you are facing these challenges you are not alone and I am happy to help navigate and guide you to a more peaceful household.

If you often wonder "why do I do this," and have a history of trauma, let's connect! If you are a teen, adult or parent, and want to explore a quieter brain, less irritability/anxiety/sadness, let's connect!.
My goal as a therapist is to demonstrate that therapy can be affirming, hard things can be explored, and "feelers" don't have to be so uncomfortable. Self-care and mindfulness can feel like buzz words, and I hope to find language and skills that fit into your philosophy's and life style. My therapeutic style is underlined by my compassion and candor, and guided by more than 10 years of experience working in a nonprofit agency. Emotionally loud individuals/families and not-so-helpful decision making are welcomed!

As a professional, and a parent I truly understand there is no greater joy than seeing your child happy and healthy. I also know there is no greater heartache than seeing your child unhappy. For adults: stress, anxiety, and depression can diminish time with families. For children: poor self-esteem, decreased confidence, bullying/ loss, academic struggles or a disability can impact friendships, family, and academics. I specialize in working with people who have experienced a twist in life that they were not expecting. I have 25 years of treating adults and children who want to reclaim control of their lives.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
