My approach to counseling is based on behavioral frameworks (ACT, DBT, CBT) because research suggests these treatment methods will best help my clients in overcoming mental, emotional, and social challenges.

I specialize in utilizing mindfulness-based treatments like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT) and a family systems approach in aiding an individual and/or family unit to help lessen the life-interfering symptoms which contribute to their anxiety, depression, and/or anger issues.
Each of us have the capacity to reach our fullest potentials. However, we often find ourselves stuck in negative patterns of thinking and being, unable to see other possibilities. Therapy allows us as individuals and family units to create meaning out of the various life experiences that we have encountered and can help to open up new ways of thinking, feeling, and being. I provide individual and family counseling in a comfortable and confidential setting. I treat those who experience issues related to trauma, anger management, self-injury, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, identity issues, and self-esteem challenges.

I am familiar with using a variety of evidence-based therapies to help cope with many of these issues, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness.
Mental health has always been a passion of mine, and should be taken care of like any other medical condition. Some people need someone to talk to, and others need someone to help them build more coping skills or to learn about themselves, but either way therapy is not a one size fits all model and I am here to help in a way that works best and is most realistic for you. Many places still don't feel appropriate to talk about mental health, but I promise to provide a place and time that is safe and set aside for you to be heard, understood and valued.

Working together, using evidence based treatment such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution focused therapy, I guide clients in learning skills to address many symptoms and regain the narratives of their life.
Life is constantly changing and can become overwhelming. During these seemingly non-stop changes, people may find themselves, lost, and disconnected. It is my passion to help others. I work to provide a hopeful, safe, and non-judgmental environment for a person to work through their concerns and most importantly meet the client where they are at in their journey so they may reclaim a happiness in life. I work with adults, children and adolescents and have experience supporting clients living with depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, trauma, substance use disorder, gambling and ADHD.

I am trained in EMDR, hypnotherapy, ACT, DBT, and a variety of other therapeutic modalities.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and also offer life coaching and energy therapies. I have specialties working with adolescents and young adults, though enjoy adults at all ages. I have specialized training in the LGBTQ population and much of my passion is working with anxiety and self-confidence. Something I enjoy helping people with is coming out of definition and conclusion about who they are or what their life has to be. Instead of looking for what's wrong with you, I much prefer to ask the question, "What's right about you?" and how can you use to that to create the life you can't wait to get out of bed for every morning?

I am a LCPC working in Geneva, IL. My specialties include DBT, CBT, and experiential work utilizing art and mindfulness. I find something as simple as taking a walk while noticing our senses can shift the dynamic of a typical therapy session. Creating using various art media is another way to engage with our thoughts and emotions when words fall short of explaining how we feel. I especially enjoy working with adolescents and the emerging adulthood population, with experience working with adults also.

Drawing from the frameworks of CBT, DBT, internal family systems, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy, I work to provide clients with concrete tools that can assist them in living full, authentic lives.
I believe that therapy works best as a process of uncovering our truest selves. Oftentimes life hands us burdens of stress, anxiety, grief, trauma, and pain that weigh us down and make it difficult to encounter the world in ways that we would like. I believe each individual has a unique and important story to tell, and I find joy in walking alongside clients as they begin to peel away the layers of life’s burdens to uncover the light of their authentic selves. I strive to offer a safe space for clients to author a personal narrative that feels genuine, and I operate from a gentle, trauma-informed, strengths-based perspective.

My mission is to provide individuals, couples, and groups with high quality therapy that is evidence based, client centered, and trauma informed. I practice from elements of CBT, DBT, ACT, and Object relations. My approach to therapy is always unique to each and every client, as each person has a different lived experience that must be accounted for and tailored to fit. I do not believe in one size fits all therapy. As a clinician, I help treat the root causes of the problems in peoples’ lives. The objective is always to put out the fire, not just fan the smoke.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
