My approach to therapy is not always your traditional approach. I utilize many evidence-based therapy modalities while also making our time together interesting and fun. Many times deep healing work can occur without even realizing it. You may find yourself feeling an array of emotions from crying to laughing as we work together. I believe that there is deep healing power in laughter.

Life can be difficult, and sometimes we get overwhelmed or lose our way. As a therapist, I can be a healthy support system to help you achieve emotion regulation by learning ways to control your emotional state and needs in various situations. I provide comfort in processing unresolved grief through psychoeducation about the 6 stages of grief (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance, and Meaning). I lend support to you through your past and current traumatic events. I also focus on family and couple conflicts by addressing specific issues and improving communication and conflict resolution.

These have related to empowering the individual towards developing skills to work through Depression, Anxiety, Grief, ADHD, Bipolar disorders, relationship building, and the individuals role in their family dynamic.
We all have a story with puzzle pieces that we sometimes can't see how they fit. My hope and passion is to help identify how these pieces can be placed to help make sense of who we are and how we can fit them in to make us feel less confused. I have discovered that helping and healing is my calling and have worked on these puzzles with adults, families, couples, and young people. My hope and goal is to help individuals feel comfortable in a non-judgmental safe space to work through the difficulties they are experiencing towards their goals of self growth, and an encouraging atmosphere to help the individual not feel so alone.

Asking for help is one of the most difficult things for someone to do. Life is not always easy, and sometimes we cannot do it on our own. This is nothing to be ashamed of. Life changes can bring about anxiety, depressed mood, or other more serious symptoms. I can provide a comfortable, non-judgemental environment and help you sort through these emotions, regroup, and heal.

My clinical background consists of expertise in work with children, adolescents, adults, and families in an array of areas: anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral issues, trauma, stress management, relationship issues, and parenting.
Your story is as unique as you are, and there is no one-size fits all approach to therapy. For that reason, I believe it is important to build a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable sharing your story with me. In doing so, we can work together to develop strategies that will allow you to address the root causes of your difficulties, manage strong negative emotions, and build meaningful social connections with others.

My ideal client would be someone who is struggling to manage anxiety and depression, someone who is struggling with low self-esteem, and who is struggling with life changes and stress management. My ideal client would need a counselor who is going to provide them with coping skills to manage their symptoms and a counselor who is going to give them multiple options to see what works for them. My ideal client would want a counselor who is honest, trustworthy, and transparent.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
