Through the use of Psychodynamic, Person Centered and Adlerian approaches we will work on increasing your overall quality of life and working through any and all trauma that you would like.
I believe that the first step in getting help is asking for help. It is during this process that I have learned that creating a safe and comfortable place for my clients to work towards their goals is my ultimate passion. The therapeutic process should be goal driven and worked on by both people in the room. Through an increased awareness, I will help my clients understand their core beliefs about themselves and the world in which they navigate. I am here to help my clients enhance their communication and emotional intelligence in a sensitive, structured and collaborative way.

There are many evidence-based practices to integrate within this approach such as CBT, DBT, Adlerian, and mindfulness.
It is my goal to provide a safe and collaborative space where you can fully express your thoughts, feelings, doubts, and desires. I deeply respect all people and their unique identities and experiences. I listen carefully to make sure I fully understand and then work in partnership and support to develop goals and plans. It is my hope that everyone I meet with feels accepted and comfortable throughout our journey together.

I use an eclectic approach and techniques from Adlerian psychology, somatics, Internal Family Systems parts work, narrative therapy, polyvagal theory, and mindfulness.
I welcome all kinds of clients to my practice, and I'm lucky to work with clients from 19-89 (so far!). My clients are often focused on feeling and functioning better through an exploration of their identities, histories, current situations and goals for the future. I particularly enjoy working with people on issues of depression and/or anxiety, changes in body size and/or ability, chronic pain, trauma, gender and sexuality issues, work and life transitions, aging, stress management, and parenting challenges. My work centers around fostering awareness of and compassion for yourself in moving through everyday life.

My professional training in various theories and models led me to reflect on my beliefs about human nature, how problems develop within people, and their capacity to change. Taking an Adlerian approach allows me to counsel through my core beliefs: society/the dominant culture’s oppressive ways impact people and therefore a shift to a more egalitarian society needs to occur; with empathic, compassionate, and culturally responsive support, people can change, grow, and improve their lives for both self and social interest; and with culturally responsive education and support, society can do better with each other and for each other.

Pursuing self knowledge takes courage. Sometimes it isn’t possible to do on one’s own. Doing so, however, leads to self- acceptance and clarity about the choices one can make to live the best life they can. Developing insight into your emotions, past experiences, and recognizing the you have choices empower you to feel more in-control of your life, capitalize on your strengths find the direction you want to take, to eventually discover and become who you want to be, as a parent, a partner, a friend, an employee, as your SELF. Every person deserves not just to survive, but to THRIVE,

I am immediately open for new clients, both long and short-term, and have Tuesday-Saturday availability. My ideal client is open to new experiences and different perspectives. I want us to work together to build a personalized narrative and care plan, through experimentation and a collaborative approach. I also love and offer short-term and long-term ADHD skills coaching.

The human experience can be challenging at times. One can encounter situations leading to feeling powerless, in pain, or stuck. At times, this can look like an individual ruminating in the past or experiencing levels of depression. Or possibly, one can also be worried about the future or experiencing anxiety levels. I value the autonomy that people have and their ability to problem solve. Yet, I also acknowledge that a constructive and intentional space could provide efficiency for individuals maneuvering through various situations. As a counselor, I intend to help you within this space and support you on your healing journey.

Adlerian Therapists

How does Adlerian psychology work?

In the framework of Adlerian therapy, people are motivated by a sense of belonging and community, which drives them to surmount feelings of inferiority so as to contribute to their society; fulfilling these desires can help people flourish. Adlerian therapy proceeds in four stages—engagement, assessment, insight, and reorientation—in an overall effort to understand the client’s past and to achieve their present-day humanistic goals.

Is Adlerian therapy humanistic?

Yes, Adlerian psychology is humanistic; it focuses on the whole person, emphasizes their strengths rather than just their symptoms, and centers them in determining how they can grow and flourish. This school of thought informed the work of Abraham Maslow, who went on to develop humanistic psychology.

How long does Adlerian therapy take?

Adlerian therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented form of therapy that takes around 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Of course, some people may be in therapy for a shorter or longer time frame; length depends on the individual and the problem or condition they wish to treat. Clients can ask their therapist about the timeline for treatment before they begin and check in periodically to ensure that they’re on the same page in terms of progress.

Is Adlerian therapy evidence based?

There is not as much evidence to support the effectiveness of Adlerian therapy as there is for other types of therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. But Adlerian therapy may be the right therapy for some people—whether they’re seeking to treat mental disorders or achieve self-growth—especially those looking for a holistic approach that emphasizes relationships, community, self-worth, and purpose.
