My particular areas of interest include mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, alcohol abuse, boundary-setting, relationship and fertility issues, and parenting.
You don’t have to go through this alone. A meaningful life is always full of challenges, and sometimes we need a trusted guide for a difficult leg of the journey. When you make the decision to try therapy, you deserve to feel safe, valued, and understood by your therapist. My approach is open and authentic. I believe in warmth, humor, and engaging as a human being, not just as a clinician.

At times a child’s behavior can become unmanageable. This can create turmoil within the family’s relationships and leave parents at a loss for where to turn. When typical parenting strategies are ineffective, parents can feel overwhelmed, frustrated and even hopeless. I specialize in helping parents of children with pathological demand avoidance, highly sensitive children, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I especially enjoy working with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, body dysmorphia, existential concerns, life transitions, and trauma related stressors.
I believe that life is a beautifully challenging and unpredictable experience. The ebbs and flows of life are what makes us human. When we are caught in the lows of life, we often feel this lack of control, we feel stuck, or we feel this inability to find the ‘right answer.’ I would like to show you that you have the answers within, you have the tools within, and we will work together as a team to regain a sense of direction in your life. Therapy is a vulnerable experience; therefore, I intentionally create an atmosphere that feels safe, allows your stories to be heard, and empowers you to be your authentic self.

All people deserve to enjoy each formative stage of their life and the joys that come with them. That is so hard to do when daily routines and responsibilities are clouded by obsessions, compulsions, perfectionistic behaviors, and rumination. Adults can have their daily functioning impacted in work, family life or socially by these thoughts and behaviors. Parents of children and teens can feel frustrated and helpless as their child’s behavior and moods become the family dictator – demanding its terms be met and controlling the events of the day. Navigating how to regain control from anxiety can feel far out of reach.

When is the last time someone asked the question, “how are you?” but REALLY asked you? With so many demands on our time and attention, it is easy to feel lost in a never-ending to do list where your personal needs and desires are toward the very bottom. When you think of where you are, you find yourself constantly comparing your life to those around you and where you are never feels like enough. You’ve tried sharing your feelings with friends and it somehow turns into a talk about their issues, leaving you feeling mostly unheard. The cycle of all give and no take ends here. It's time for the focus to just be on you.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
