Dr. Oksoon Cho is the founder of the Chicago Mental Health Institute (CMHI) and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, a counselor educator, and clinical supervisor. My areas of focus include but are not limited to, complex trauma, depression, anxiety, alcohol/drug and other process addictions, relationship issues, life transitions/adjustments, interpersonal concerns and faith based counseling. I believe its important to walk along side my client not only as their counselor, but as their cheerleader and their encourager in order to instill hope as they work towards becoming mentally sound, emotionally stable, physically strong and spiritually alive.

Children and adolescents are faced with many challenges. It seems as if they are constantly bombarded with information. They are often stressed and at times, lack the ability to communicate how they are feeling as they cannot put their feelings into words. I understand the needs of the children as well as the challenges as a parent. I provide various treatment modalities depending on the needs and treatment goals of each individual.

I have been helping people overcome life's challenges for 20+ years. I utilize a strength-based individual supportive approach to life stressors, family conflict, and behavioral issues. I work with adults, adolescents, and families struggling with a full range of issues, including those related to drug and alcohol addiction. I have experience with the adult and juvenile criminal justice systems, drug courts, the Health and Human Services systems, and the local school systems. I have provided individual and group therapy to the criminal justice population, as well as group therapy to those involved in out-patient substance abuse programs.

Over the past 10 years I've worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups in various settings including private practice, hospitals, residential, and community mental health centers. This is kind of weird, isn't it, to "shop" for a therapist? I won't try to convince you that I'm the best therapist for you, but I can tell you that I love helping people learn how to help themselves. I worked in therapeutic day schools where I gained experience working with those struggling and/or experiencing ADHD, Autism, grief, trauma, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and depression. I have since used that experience to work with people of all ages wanting to find peace.
