To best meet the needs of each individual, I use evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), Prolonged Exposure & Response Prevention (PE-PTSD), & Motivational Interviewing (MI).
The process of therapy & self-evaluation is often a difficult endeavor. I seek to ensure that your path to healing includes an emphasis on your strengths, being compassionate to yourself, incorporating self-care goals, practicing mindfulness with general well-being of both the mind & body. I've worked in the mental health field since undergrad & have over 3,330 supervised hours working at a higher level of care. I support emerging adults & adults of diverse populations that live in FL, IL, IN, OK with varying levels of Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder(OCD), Trauma/PTSD & struggle with life transition & challenges.

When working with clients, I use a combination of the Neuro-affective relational model (NARM), acceptance and commitment, and solution-focused theories, as well as motivational interviewing.
I place a heavy emphasis on authenticity, vulnerability, and connection when it comes to mental health. I believe that if addiction is a disease of isolation, then the solution to that is connection, with oneself and others. In my work with clients, I believe in helping them to cultivate self-acceptance, which leads to an improved sense of self-worth and greater love for oneself. Additionally, I encourage clients to have compassion for themselves, while having an appreciation for the therapeutic process. I consider it my role to help others discover and become their true self, so that what’s on the inside matches the outside.

My therapeutic style pulls from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing.
I am passionate about working with neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC populations and clients who actively identify with or are exploring non-monogamous relationships. I stand firmly in my beliefs of fat liberation, Black liberation, anti-racism, and sex worker decriminalization. I’m also interested in working with clients on issues surrounding mood/anxiety, trauma, sexuality, and reproductive mental health.

From there I tend to use motivational interviewing to collaborate on a treatment plan.
A graduate of Jane Addams School of Social Work with over 20 years of multi-cultural counseling experience with adolescents, adults and families. This evidence based practice, uses questionnaires, treatment plans and scales to assess your progress. You may see significant improvement within 6 visits w/o medication. Bias management, mindfulness, affirmations, nutrition, exercise and supplements are prescribed. These can, on occasion reduce the need for psychiatric medication. (In consultation with your doctor) Isn't it time for you to get results out of therapy? Get better faster.

Employing and learning different approaches such as somatic-based interventions, Psychodynamic, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, ACT and Relational-Cultural Theory, I tailor each client’s individualized treatment plan to their needs and goals.
I'm a Taiwanese/Chinese second-generation immigrant who grew up in the Midwest. Born to first-generation immigrants, I've witnessed the ways my parents’ migration experiences and has worked to understand and break cycles of generational trauma. I've dealt with the forces of assimilation, gendered and racialized identity formation, and the need to establish a sense of belonging within an immigrant family surrounded by predominantly Christian, white communities. I've worked with individuals/couples that are challenged by anxiety, trauma, depression, stress, family/relationship conflicts, racial/sexual identities, LGBTQ+ issues, etc.

As a social worker my perspective is to use a strength-based approach with Motivational Interviewing, Gottman Method Couples Therapy and a DBT skills to listen deeply and help individuals cultivate / strengthen their own resilience, creativity and internal resources to thrive.
I have a passion for journeying with individuals and families who have a hunch or a longing for something different, better, in their lives. Together I collaborate with folks to address how neglected hunches may breed uncomfortable symptoms such as burn out, addictions, isolation and frustrations within relationships. By exploring values, strengths, and communication styles I coach clients through their discomforts and empower them to bring forth a new sense of self-worth and direction.

Adults with painful anxiety and depression can find relief through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, survivors of trauma may benefit from trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and those struggling with ambivalence can make changes with the support of Motivational Interviewing.
My practice supports adults who are experiencing acute and/or chronic distress. For some, events like divorce, trauma, loss, and adjustment to a blended family spark symptoms. As a result, depression, anxiety, angry outbursts, mood swings, isolation, addiction, and vocational difficulties may emerge. Many others have been living with the pain of recurrent anxiety and depression for decades. I support people as they work through these difficulties. I believe in people's capacity to grow, change, and move towards self-determined goals.

My approach is holistic, meaning I integrate humanistic, cognitive behavioral, motivational interviewing and psychodynamic modalities into my approach.
The most important thing I want potential clients to know is that I truly love doing therapy and sincerely care about the people I with work with. The belief that clients can create greater self awareness, insight and transformation through a non-judgmental, safe and compassionate relationship is the foundation of my approach. By providing an open and collaborative space, clients can explore their thought patterns, emotional/somatic states and behavioral experience to promote meaningful changes. I bring a warm smile, a curious, gentle, down to earth manner, a sense of humor and an authentic self into the therapy room.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
