In individual therapy, I emphasize a short-term, time-sensitive approach that is problem focused. During troublesome periods in our lives, powerful ideas about ourselves or about the world can become activated that result in our feeling anxious, sad or depressed. Relief comes from replacing these notions with a more realistic perception of our circumstances and ourselves. A principal goal of this approach is assist clients to learn how to become their own therapist, thereby preventing relapse and decreasing dependence on therapy or when appropriate medications.

Your decision to seek therapy is a sign of strength, courage, and respect for your personal well-being. I welcome people facing a variety of challenges including depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use challenges, LBGTQ+ identities, relationship issues, and the general "stuck" feeling. My therapeutic style is caring, encouraging and individualized in order to help each person learn skills to work with their emotions, see situations without judgment and recognize solutions that fit personal values. I also have a strong emphasis on diversity and social justice and incorporate it into my practice.

Starting therapy can be a daunting and overwhelming process. It is my goal to make it an easy and comfortable transition. I view therapy as a team approach including the child and/or adolescent, the family, community resources, and myself. We work together to best address the presenting challenge. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience working with children, adolescents, and families within a variety of therapeutic settings. I received my Master of Social Work from New York University and a Post Master's Degree from Loyola University.

The crux of my approach is simple, but versatile: I use anything and everything available to make breakthroughs possible. We all do better with an expansive toolkit. EMDR for "stuckness" / trauma and Gottman methods for couples to repair & connect. (Well worth YouTubing either for a sense of them.) Once we understand each other and you are insight-equipped, we'll put insight into action. But in ways that feel authentic to your personal experience of things. Clients often report that my approachable, humorous, "very human" style makes therapy a much more effective experience even when exploring difficult content.

Do you have a child or teenager that is displaying difficult behaviors or moods at school or home? Have they experienced some adverse event/s such as abuse, trauma, or loss of a loved one? A loss of interest in things they once enjoyed? Are they lacking in relational supports or friendship with same-aged peers? I have worked in the Chicago school system for four years and specialize in working with children and adolescents who need support to work through symptoms that stem from previous hardships, improve communication and emotional regulation, and to promote optimal mental health.

The current state of the world can feel overwhelming, confusing, and scary. Those of us who hold marginalized identities have to work extra hard to feel safe, valid, and empowered. LGBTQIA+ communities, folks with different abilities, people who are a marginalized gender, as well as those who would like to explore their whiteness and their privilege- I am right here with you. Past traumas can often impact how we are able to show up for ourselves and others. We each have the ability to find our unique path to fulfillment and wholeness.

I believe that therapy can enrich people's lives and relationships. It takes strength and courage to reach out for help, and oftentimes the first step is the most difficult. That’s why I emphasize on the development of a trusting relationship before anything else. I use a client-centered approach to help foster a warm and non judgemental environment where my clients can feel confident to explore and make changes to help improve their quality of life. I enjoy the use of play, humor, and warmth to create an enjoyable setting for the therapeutic process to occur.

Embrace the adventure of adulthood, even when it's filled with worry, the pursuit of perfection, and stress! Living in the shadow of a pandemic, stepping into college or the workforce, it's completely normal if these pressures make you feel overwhelmed. But, rather than being stuck in the endless cycle of 'what-ifs', let's shift the focus towards the 'what-nows'. In a post-COVID world, if you're asking, "Am I ready to be an adult? I’m behind. How can I navigate the world?" remember, you're far from alone. Worries, striving for perfection, dealing with stress – they're all part of the journey, but you don't have to do it alone.
