I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Certified Sex Addiction and Trauma Therapist (CSAT), Certified Advanced Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CAADC) and BRI-I (Board Registered Interventionist) with several years of clinical experience in the mental health & addictions field.
There are numerous reasons why an individual makes a decision to seek therapy. From my perspective, the key factor in being able to examine your individual reasons is based upon the relationship between yourself and your therapist. I offer a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment in order to explore your individual needs with a commitment to placing the highest priority on your care. We will work collaboratively to identify and address your concerns in order to foster meaningful change in your life. My clinical experience has included working not only with individuals but couples, families and groups.

In addition to being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker I also am a Certified Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Counselor.
I specialize in working with individuals with eating disorders and addictions. I believe entering into a therapeutic relationship requires courage and just enough hope and willingness to begin. You've been turning to a substance: whether it's alcohol, other drugs, compulsive eating, starving, bulimia, however it's not working. A part of you wants to stop but you not in control, you have lost the power of choice. Profound shame accompanies these illnesses and this shame interferes with asking for help. Addictions/eating disorders robs a person of all they value, asking for help is vital, we cannot recover alone.

Don't settle for a generic drug and alcohol therapist. You deserve help that actually helps you feel happy again. (And, that's in-network with your insurance).

We live in a world where we are conditioned by so many things around us. Do you feel you are not good enough? Do you experience the need to achieve perfection? Are you made to feel your needs are unimportant? This can be a result of messaging we have received from family, society, culture, etc. It can leave us feeling sad, unmotivated, and purposeless, among many other emotions. Together we can challenge norms and evaluate if and what we can reset. Imagine a life in which you could be relieved of all the unnecessary weight you carry. Together we can awaken parts of you that you may not know exist.

It's taken a lot to get you this far. The coping skills you have used all along don't seem to work anymore and you may need a little extra help. As a professional, I've worked to create a safe space where you can discuss all of the aspects of your life. I won't reduce you to a diagnosis or blame you for your difficulties. Instead, I use a collaborative approach; you're the expert on your life and will use my 25+ years of experience in counseling and education to listen compassionately and help you find your unique solution.

You may feel increasingly more anxious, emotional, or depressed. Life may even feel unmanageable. You might find yourself trying to fill internal voids with external things, such as substances, food, sex, or relationships. Experiences from your past could leave you feeling stuck in your present. Change can be terrifying, and taking that first step may feel really scary.

So many factors are involved in how we feel on a day to day basis that it can be difficult to figure out where to begin. Seeking therapy and finding a therapist that works for you can be the first step in this process. While seeking change, we come to find that it is a complex process involving mind, body, and spirit. Balancing these components of our selves is what the therapeutic process is about. Whether it seems to be a practical problem or a more diffuse concern, your hard work can result in the balance and fulfillment you desire.

I work intentionally to provide a safe, nonjudgemental space to support people on their journey of self-discovery. I believe therapy can be a beautiful space to get to know oneself, one's desires, hopes and goals, and explore whether we're living our life day-to-day in a way that's true to that. I work with people who are wanting to get to know themselves deeper, make changes in the way they're living, navigate life transitions, and build self-compassion and confidence.

I offer trauma-informed psychodynamic therapy through a leftist/feminist theoretical perspective. I am passionate about serving those who have felt let down by the mental healthcare system or disempowered by past providers, and welcome skepticism about the healthcare system in late-stage capitalism. I draw from IFS, developmental and evolutionary psychology, and more. I reject the hierarchical nature of traditional Western healthcare and encourage collaboration to achieve empowerment. I know effective therapy requires trust, and that I have to earn yours. My goal is to decolonize and destigmatize mental health.

Drug Abuse Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
