With over 10 years of experience working in residential, inpatient and outpatient settings as well as community treatment centers, I have been able to address issues relating to chronic mental disorders, mood, trauma, and substance dependency. I am trained at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Northwestern University where I specialized in using an integrative approach of both Psychodynamic therapy and Client-centered perspectives to counseling. My therapeutic style is warm, compassionate and interactive, as I use a strength-based model to help individuals and couples gain awareness of the roles and the dynamics at play.

It wasn’t always easy growing up or getting through my 20’s. I felt like the world was up against me and I couldn’t make any mistakes, especially as a young professional of color. I focused on trying to be “perfect” so that I could escape harsh judgment that I knew I’d receive anyway. Instead of experiencing triumph from my efforts, I ended up exhausted and burnt out. I soon discovered how my past affected me. Now, I guide others in discovering how parts of themselves and their past have led them to having similar experiences. I assist in showing clients that they can make mistakes to grow and gain life lessons.

My name is Dr. Amr Kireem, a clinical psychologist and licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois. I have been working with clients since 2009 who struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, OCD, PTSD/trauma, relationship issues, codependency, life transitions, and other symptoms. To be honest I am probably not the right therapist for you. I am not like most therapists, and my clients are not like most clients. As therapists, we work to build a genuine relationship with each client, create a safe space for discovery, and aim to understand that individual. This allows clients to safely explore alongside the therapist, and begin to see themselves with greater clarity, depth, and honesty. Good, effective therapy will likely not happen overnight (though exciting and wonderful eureka moments certainly occur along the way), and trust, honesty, and humor are invaluable to a beneficial therapeutic relationship. I collaborate with participants to plan creative solutions and positive coping behaviors in order to address a wide variety of experiences, including: anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, self-esteem and self-worth, stress, symptoms related to post-traumatic stress, vicarious trauma, being in relationship with a trauma survivor, substance use/ abuse, self-care, and addressing negative coping behaviors. I have worked extensively with survivors of sexual violence, people who have experienced domestic violence, combat Veterans, and other survivors of complex trauma.
