Despite what Thoreau says, we do not have to live lives of quiet desperation. Through mindfulness and hypnotherapy, you can find freedom from the negative thoughts and beliefs underlying the fear and anger, that is, the stress. I helped stressed out professionals find balance, freedom and joy. Often they try to manage their stress by having a drink, working out, or going out on the town. While these provide some relief, the problem is, they do not get to the source. One day the stress has taken over and there's little or no joy left.

Tim utilizes ACT, CBT, and EPR to assist adults with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, other mood disorders, OCD, anger management, and ADHD.
Tim (he/him) believes good therapy is not just about connecting to another person, but also about understanding the context of our internal world: our thoughts, emotions, memories, desires, compulsions, and more. His approach is to help people change how they interact with their internal world in an effort to pursue a more fulfilling life, sometimes helping people define what that means to them along the way. In his experience this generally involves a lot of education, trust, and practicing how to use tools and exercises outside of sessions.

I have experience in treating dual-diagnosis substance abuse mental health, trauma, anxiety, depression, domestic violence, anger management, and more.
The basis of an ideal client in my lens does not have a select issue. Everyone has their own life challenges and emotional weight they carry with them. In the end, what I want for my clients is a common goal to be the best version of themselves they can be while being open-minded in facing tasks related to that goal. Whether it is an interpersonal relationship problem, anxiety, substance abuse, etc; the ultimate goal is to be better in comparison to yourself yesterday rather than someone else. That common ideal goal is what I aim for with every client I work with through the use of problem-solving strategies and coping mechanisms.

I have past experiences in both outpatient hospital settings and private practice work in the areas of mood disorders, building family communication, ADHD, behavioral disorders, child academic issues, relationship difficulties, stress management, parenting, anger management, self-esteem issues, and life transitions.
I am a strong believer that successful therapy is centered around finding a therapist that’s a good fit for you. It can be hard to make steps toward change- whether those big changes or small. I focus both on developing new strengths and skills to effectively manage life’s difficulties in the short term, while gaining insight into reasons behind behaviors to regain the control and understanding of past patterns to facilitate future autonomy in handling life’s stressors. My style has been described by clients as supportive, warm, interactive, easy to talk to, direct, nonjudgmental while also being able to utilize humor & creativity.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
