When we are able to truly understand ourselves and our relationships, we can build a life of genuine meaning and connection. Many people enter into therapy only to find themselves gaining small amounts of insight that produce little or no changes in their life. My therapeutic methods produce results that not only change the way we feel about ourselves in the world but change our behaviors. I am respectful of the fact that everyone's pace and tolerance to different interventions varies. My work is reflective of the care and respect I have for each and every client as individuals.

So many circumstances in life can throw us out of balance. The chaos and upheaval we've experienced over the past few years at a global, national, and personal level has most people looking for ways to re-balance. I am currently providing support via telephone and Zoom. I have experience supporting caregivers of people living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. I also work with people struggling with relationship and professional challenges. Having someone to talk to can really help restore balance and improve your quality of life during stressful times.

I believe a deep, exploratory approach to therapy allows us to uncover the underlying roots of unresolved emotions, unmet needs, and internal conflicts. While I do have training in behavioral therapies and can offer practical techniques for handling distress, my practice centers around helping clients explore the interplay between past experiences, recurring patterns, and present-day behaviors to gain meaningful insight into emotional triggers and coping mechanisms. I developed this approach from my work with people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, chronic distress, difficulty with relationships, and eating disorders.

Both personally and professionally, I feel a natural inclination to connect with and help others. I believe that, because nobody’s life is perfect, we all need some extra support at times. This perspective is what keeps me motivated and driven to do the work that I do. With an approach that is trauma-informed, client-centered, and strengths-based, I strive to create a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients. I believe in collaboration and working with clients to identify areas in which they seek change and to learn how to develop and use personal strengths and resources to make positive change possible.

Starting therapy can be scary. Being vulnerable with a stranger takes a lot of courage and dedication. This is especially true if you're someone who is prone to privacy, logic or reason–or, perhaps you grew up thinking you need to hide your feelings in an effort to appear “strong.” My own therapy journey has taught me that being in tune with your emotions doesn’t make you weak. In fact, it helps you become stronger than you could ever know. I’m here to help you discover the same for yourself.

For people hoping for their relationship with their parents to change, their future to be less lonely, or their anxiety to quiet down: I am one of Agave Studio's professional counselors and a trauma therapist, trained as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. Somatic Experiencing works to heal trauma through accessing the nervous system and allowing the body to complete physiological responses that got stuck in the body during a traumatic event, or over time, as is the case for racial and childhood trauma.

As someone who has faced many adversities, life challenges, has had their own struggles with physical health and mental health – I completely get how hard it is to not only ask for help but the challenges and the courage it takes to be vulnerable enough to ask for help from others – even, from yourself. I acknowledge that one’s healing journey is not linear because it takes time, work, having plan B when plan A doesn’t work out, having plan C for plan B, etc. Most importantly, the need to develop some kindness and compassion with yourself to work through feelings or experiences that feel complicated, messy, or misunderstood.

One of my favorite song lyrics says, "I'm just a spirit trying to be human." There’s so much weight that lives inside those words: emotions, questions, uncertainty. For those of us who wander, question who we are, or wonder what our purpose is, we can stumble if life hasn’t met our expectations. The majority of my clients identify as misfits, empaths, spiritual beings, and highly sensitive people who have survived childhood trauma, harsh life transitions, and an occasional identity crisis.

Our beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world, formed by past experiences, often have an unwanted impact on our our present behavior, relationships, and overall wellbeing. Taking steps toward profound healing and self-discovery is a brave task, complicated by the difficulty of finding someone who will walk alongside you during your journey. I am passionate about working with people who are wanting to go deeper as we explore and befriend parts of self which were previously hidden. I aim to create and maintain a supportive environment in which transformation is possible.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
