The decision to begin a therapeutic journey can be daunting yet richly rewarding. I strive to create a safe, collaborative, and supportive space to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your experiences and personal dynamics to promote a more balanced and fulfilling life. I support my clients in their goals by utilizing a mindful, relational and reflective approach. I integrate neuroscience and somatic based practices with equine facilitated and eco-therapy (ie.. horses and nature). I am committed to a therapeutic process that fosters self-compassion, creativity, and resiliency, while valuing diversity and authenticity.

With such a fast pace of life, you may feel like you're standing still while everything seems to be zooming around and past you. You could be getting frustrated, going through the motions or drowning within a never ending list of “to-do’s”. This frustration could leave you feeling like everything is spinning out of control and it’s hard to make decisions. You might even find yourself questioning what you’ve done wrong, wondering how things got this way and why this is happening to you. You can calm the internal noise and build the confidence you need to feel in control of your own life. I know what it's like to overthink and doubt.

Sometimes in life we need a little extra help. Family and friends mean well, but talking with a professional about your concerns can make all the difference in the world. If you are struggling, or simply need a warm and gentle environment in which to rest, I am here for you.

When life becomes unfocused, or the weight of stress too much to carry, it is the resilient who seek clarity and work to better distribute the weight. It is the evolutionary elite who are able to view change and stress as an opportunity for growth and adaptation.

I believe that all people have the potential to overcome whatever obstacles are in their life path, and our relationship is very important in helping you overcome those obstacles. So with that in mind, I will initially spend time just getting to know you and helping you feel comfortable and understood. You can expect a compassionate listener who will help you express issues that sometimes are uncomfortable to talk about. I will also help you establish goals for our work together that will be clear from the beginning of your treatment until the end.

I understand how easy it is to identify the changes that we want to make, but how much harder it is to put those goals into action. Experiencing difficulties in changing behaviors or overcoming painful emotions doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with you; it means that you’re human. Therapy provides an opportunity for you to learn tools that support behavior change; resolve the origins of the behaviors; and receive support and compassion throughout the process. We can work together to remove the roadblocks on the path to your most fulfilling, joy-filled life.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
