Offering hassle-free online individual and couples therapy sessions via a secure telehealth platform, getting started is more convenient than ever: Grab your laptop, find a private space, and log-on.
On the outside you have it all together, but deep down you carry a secret experience that knocks the wind out of you every time you remember it. The sexual trauma you experienced has robbed you of joy, freedom, and vitality. You have people in your life who you care about, but the relationships feel distant and detached. You can’t remember the last time you had a good night’s sleep because the memories seem to loom continuously. You remember some of the goals you used to have, but fear, anxiety, and insecurity stop you from pursuing them. It’s time to get your life back, and I want to help you get there.

My passion and speciality are to help you recapture your dream for a great marriage. When most couples get married, they aspire to an amazing future together. The reality far too often is they lie awake mourning a dying dream-fearing what the future may hold. As a marriage counselor who is Gottman Level 3 trained, I harness my expertise to fight for your marriage. To best serve my clients, I limit my practice to only 15 couples a week-all of whom are serious about working on their relationship. If you are ready to make a change, you are ready to seek my specialized help.

Finding a therapist you feel comfortable talking to can make a huge difference, in your progress, since therapy takes place within the context of a relationship. During my 28 years as a therapist, I discovered I quickly develop therapeutic trust and rapport with most clients. Also, clients generally respond positively to my open and direct communication.

I am a therapist who helps adults and couples who are struggling with life’s hurtful problems: single parenthood, relationship conflicts, divorce, difficulties at college, depression/anxiety, a partner or parent’s alcoholism, mental illness in the family, stress at work, news of a serious disease or financial reversal, caring for aged parents, overcoming a traumatic childhood, “empty nest syndrome,” the special pressures on military families, and so forth. Life is complicated, and for every one of us, there comes a time when we feel lost, alone, or trapped in our circumstances. Whether we are struggling with depression and anxiety, having trouble in a relationship, or weighing heavy questions of our identity and where we fit into the world, sometimes we can't just figure things out on our own. For people in the LGBTQ+ community, couples, and nonmonogamous people, there can be even more challenges to navigate. We all need someone to listen to us, help us untangle the messy bits, and work with us to improve our lives.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
