I specialize in depression, anxiety, postpartum depression, family and relationship issues, self -care.
We all want to be healthier versions of ourselves and improve our overall wellbeing. Most of the time we tend to concentrate only on focusing on our physical health. While this is important it's not the only component of well-being we should be improving. To achieve lasting health we need to understand the importance of the body, mind and soul and how they work together to build our overall wellbeing. A healthy body keeps you well and active, a healthy mind keeps you focused and engaged, a healthy soul keeps you fulfilled and content.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, or a challenging relationship that’s affecting your day-to-day life, relationships, or ability to function at work? Do you feel exhausted and overwhelmed by the pressure of living up to others' expectations, just getting through the day, or the thought that there’s no light at the end of the tunnel? Do you wonder if life could be better?

Hi, my name is Dr. Celia and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who opened my practice to help those who want to make a change in their lives. I specialize in working with trauma across the lifespan, which is how I know how significantly our brains and bodies can shift after a difficult event and/or a series of difficult life circumstances. Therapy is a space for us to explore how our past informs who we are. Being able to form meaningful relationships is a key part of our mental wellness, but it isn’t always so easy to do.

Challenges overwhelm us sometimes. Relationship problems, especially, can cause self-doubt, depression and anxiety. You may feel alone in the world, but in therapy you don't have to be alone. Solutions emerge as you explore problems in a safe and confidential place. I have experience and training in resolving marital conflicts, parenting issues, anxieties, grief, depression and addictions. I have a great deal of understanding/training in working with individuals and families suffering from domestic violence.

You won't hear "It's going to be okay, I know how you feel, you will get over it" when you come to me. I understand that the hour you pay for is your hour and you will get the chance to say whatever it is that you want to say guilt-free. Saying things out loud to a trained listener will help you understand your world view in a different way. In turn, you will develop insight and coping skills.

Being a new parent is "supposed to" feel great, right? But it doesn't always feel that way. In fact, sometimes it feels like the most challenging thing you've ever done and you have no control any more. The anxiety, stress and conflicting emotions that arise with trying to conceive, pregnancy and the post-partum experience can be overwhelming, but it does not have to feel that way.

I have over 20 years of experience treating a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, perinatal/ postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, relationship problems, parenting challenges, low self-esteem, grief/loss, and trauma.
Coping with life challenges is not something you have to go through alone. Many people seek therapy for support, information, and new ideas on how to better handle the curve balls that life can throw sometimes. I believe that human beings are incredibly resilient and sometimes need assistance in recognizing their own inner strength to create positive changes in their lives. The therapeutic relationship should be collaborative, built upon both mutual respect and independence, and I hope to empower my clients to find opportunities for personal growth so that they can move forward with their goals.

Maybe your anxious thoughts are making you seek reassurance and you want to crawl out of your skin, perhaps OCD is consuming more of your day, or you’re a mom struggling with postpartum stuff, thinking that you may actually be going crazy this time, and let’s not forget how stressful decision making can be! Whatever it is, let’s talk and figure it out.
So, how's the scroll? Looking for a therapist can be stressful enough because most people are unsure how to find the right therapist. The greatest predictor of success in therapy is the strength of the relationship with your counselor. In other words, it’s best to choose someone that you click with because it’s going to be easier for you to trust the process. I’m definitely a straight shooter, and I tell it like it is, but I always have your best interests in mind. I combine evidence-based treatments with talk therapy, and somehow, humor tends to creep in from time to time too.

Perinatal challenges are very real and can be devastating.
You deserve wellness, and I believe I can help you achieve wellness. I work with individuals struggling with reproductive stress, Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and parenthood. This includes trying to conceive, fertility challenges, loss, pregnancy, the postpartum period and parenthood. Often, approaching child-bearing is the largest shift in our identity as we have known it. This can lead to increased anxiety, depression, rage or feelings of guilt and shame. You are not alone, PMAD's are common- up to 1 in 5 women share this experience! This period does not need to define you as a person, partner or parent.

Whether you are struggling with the adjustment of parenthood, postpartum, a child who is sickly or have special needs, couple/family relational issues, etc.
We all go through life and events knock us down. While we can get so caught up in the struggle, we have to believe that there is purpose for everything, even the hurt we experience. Our past experience or hurt does not have to be the blueprint of our future, we can heal.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
