I have been a therapist for 19 years and have counseled hundreds of people dealing with the typical stresses of life and relationships, trauma, anger management, and those diagnosed with Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, and other behavioral disorders. I bring further experience from working in behavioral health facilities, non-profit organizations, Illinois Department of Corrections, crisis intervention, and military mental health. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.

Kathleen Harvey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Missouri and Illinois and earned a Bachelor's of Arts and Masters in Social Work degrees from St. Louis University.Kathleen believes that it is not what happens to you, it is our attitude and what we choose to do about what happens, that makes a difference.

I specialize in healthy couples, child, and family relationships; separation/divorce; parenting/behavioral issues; anxiety and depression; and trauma/PTSD. I am a Registered Play Therapist with a fully-equipped play therapy room. I also have extensive Sandtray therapy training which I utilize with school-age children, teens, adults, and families. Additionally, I have 27 years of experience working with military members, retirees, and their families. My approach is collaborative, client-centered, strengths-oriented, and solution-focused as I strive to assist you in making the journey toward achieving your goals to improve your life, marriage, and/or family.

Everyone at some point needs a helping hand in making sense of stressful events, finding ways to cope, and taking steps toward becoming the person he or she wants to be. When working with my clients, my goal is to be that helping hand. I tailor my approach to clients' strengths and needs, with the focus of assisting individuals in reaching their goals and becoming the best versions of themselves. I prefer working with adults struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, life changes, grief, emotion regulation, or stress management.

My personal belief is that when situations in life are thrown at us we can ignore them or try to accept and work through them. Each thing we go through in life impacts who we are as a person. We can either let them make us bitter or make us better. My goal for clients is to help you on your journey by providing tools, education, and support so you can find positive solutions to your problems by creating a comfortable, non-judgmental environment by demonstrating unconditional positive regard.

I am currently welcoming new clients who are wishing to create and achieve goals while exploring his or her life's journey. Understanding and reprocessing traumatic experiences is a large part of the experience, and I believe that everyone has the potential to heal. Anger, sadness, joy, fear and so many other emotions add spice to our lives. I strive to help others master and accept the way emotions, thoughts, and behaviors impact our relationships. I enjoy working with a variety of life stages( adolescent, adult, senior), with challenges that range from easily addressed life dilemmas to those who need longer term therapy for such issues as early abuse/neglect and PTSD. I believe that safety, trust, and time are necessary to help people to make significant movement toward wholeness, integration of self,and a more fulfilling life. Brain Body Research has proven that the body is adversely affected by Chronic/Severe Stress and Limiting Beliefs about self and one's life situation.

A positive and empathetic relationship between therapist and client is essential in resolving mental health concerns. I work well with clients ready to change but who are also fearful of that change. I will be your biggest cheerleader but I will also challenge you to reframe anxious thinking, learn to deal with uncomfortable feelings; use EMDR to treat trauma, and help you to accept yourself in a more compassionate way.

After many years in multiple different employs within social work, I have settled in to a love for helping children, adolescents and young adults cope with life's stressors. I am equipped with individual and small group space and accepting new clients. I utilize several evidence based therapies, including, but not limited to cognitive behavioral (CBT), Mindfulness CBT, and Strengths based.

I believe instilling hope should be one of the top focuses of therapy. As long as you have hope, together we can focus on your strengths to achieve your goals. We are all human and experience different emotional changes throughout our lifetimes. Sometimes it is difficult to address these issues with family or friends; it may be easier to have an impartial, unbiased person with whom to talk through these issues. Together we can develop goals and tackle them one by one, at a pace that is comfortable and appropriate.
