It takes courage to realize when we are struggling and suffering and when life is not what we want it to be. Sometimes we know exactly what's making life difficult and causing us to feel anxious, depressed, stressed, or angry, but we have no idea how to deal with those feelings or what to do about our pain and distress. If you're ready and want to reduce your anxiety and depression, and stress, understand yourself more deeply and improve your relationships, I encourage you to try counseling. You don't have to be silent or alone with it all any longer. You deserve to ease your suffering, feel better, grow, heal, & embrace who you are

So often today we get caught up in the next TV show, Facebook post or YouTube sensation that we forget about the power of the human connection. When I walk into my office with someone, I am looking forward to hearing their story and what makes them who they are today. I have experience working with children and families, teenagers and adults with autoimmune disorders, adults in inpatient treatment, intensive outpatient programs, individual and group outpatient therapy as well as members of the LGBTQIAA community. Often clients who struggle with perfectionism and ruminating thoughts benefit from my compassionate approach.

You deserve to feel seen. Many of the people I have worked with have experienced pain or the weight of high expectations from themselves and others around them. Witnessing others experience the transformative power of their authentic selves and overcome challenges has been a privilege. I practice from a lens of radical empathy: I am honored to hold space for you as you work through things that feel heavy, cheer you on when it begins to feel easy again, and walk with you for all the moments in between.

If you've felt lost, frustrated or feel no one quite "gets you", you are welcome here. As a trauma informed and DBT focused therapist, I believe in the power shame reduction can have in peoples lives, alongside building concrete skills, and unlearning narratives that no longer serve us. I often see clients who may feel at odds with themselves and want to adapt or grow their ability to handle distress. Although change can be uncomfortable, I work alongside clients to rediscover personal strengths and help find a "core" or "root" that may have felt lost or distant. I commend you for stepping into vulnerability.

Our identities are one of the most important aspects of our personalities. The essence of who we are, how we exist in the world, and how we pursue our values creates an inner knowledge of self. Counseling can involve identifying, exploring, and utilizing these ideas to encourage clarity. My approach to therapy begins with unconditional positive regard and stems into several branches of therapy. I specialize in talk and art therapy with those who identify as a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Please go to our website to fill out our Google Form if you want to schedule an appointment!

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and also offer life coaching and energy therapies. I have specialties working with adolescents and young adults, though enjoy adults at all ages. I have specialized training in the LGBTQ population and much of my passion is working with anxiety and self-confidence. Something I enjoy helping people with is coming out of definition and conclusion about who they are or what their life has to be. Instead of looking for what's wrong with you, I much prefer to ask the question, "What's right about you?" and how can you use to that to create the life you can't wait to get out of bed for every morning?

I believe much of what pains us in life comes back to our sense of connection. Whether it's a feeling of not fitting in, constant fights with your partner, or struggles with your identity and self-image, it's all about who we are and how we feel in relation to others. If you are feeling lost or alone or find yourself struggling in your relationships, let's rebuild these connections—to your partner, your current self, and your desired self. With compassionate support, we'll explore your patterns, understand how your past experiences shape your present reality, and navigate setting boundaries for healthier relationships.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
