Do you find yourself feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure about how to go forward with your life? Are you dealing with intense feelings of frustration, disappointment, and distress? Left unaddressed, these feelings can accumulate and contribute to symptoms of anxiety, depression, and anger. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy can be a welcome respite to assess the situation, get support, and move towards a more adaptive response to life's challenges.

We all have the power to create happiness in our life. Sometimes we just need help figuring out how to overcome the obstacles that keep us from getting there. Nothing brings me greater joy than helping my clients experience personal and social empowerment and finding contentment in their life. Therapy doesn't start and end after our session, it moves beyond the safety of my office, so they can practice the skills they learn and feel successful managing their life independent of the therapy. I am a warm, accepting and passionate therapist, dedicated to helping people live happier, healthier lives.

I believe there is no limit to human capacity. I create a safe and affirming space to cultivate an understanding of the deeper meaning our struggles unveil. With curiosity and compassion leading our work, I help clients recognize the effects of the larger societal and cultural environment that has shaped how we move through the world. I am passionate about the process of unlearning and learning. I’ll serve as a gentle companion on the path of your own unfolding. As a fellow imperfect human being, I am honored to do this work with you.

You're so tired of feeling anxious and down. It's crept into your thoughts, your body, and your relationships. To be honest, you're so worn out that you aren't able to savor the people or the things you once loved. The routine of “pushing through” has become exhausting. Even worse, those around you don’t understand that you are not “just sad” or “just a worrier.” When you open up about your pain, you are met with platitudes like “relax,” or “your life is so great.” These comments imply that this is “all in your head.” You’ve begun to think the same yourself. You know something needs to change, but you don’t know where to turn.

“We don’t have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.” - Brene Brown. Sometimes life gets hard, and there are times we are unable to verbalize what we are going through. Other times, we just want to avoid and not feel it all— something that we are not meant to do but we all commonly do.

Managing mental health can of course be difficult. However, having a relationship with those who struggle with mental health can be equally overwhelming. Concerns such as managing one’s independence, caregiver burnout, or desires to distance or end the relationship can often present. Often, I work with individuals to find ways to manage, whether it be choosing to create distance in the relationship or implementing skills and tools to manage it, I help individuals feel more fulfilled in their relationships and as a result, their lives. I find I particularly enjoy working with clients who have family members or partners with BPD.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
