Raise your hand if you lie in bed at night, replaying scenarios in your head, and wishing you had handled them differently. Maybe you’re going through something that no one else understands. Maybe it feels like the walls are closing in on you. At your pace, I will help you process emotions and find clarity and meaning through self-expression. It would be awesome to increase happiness, manage emotions, reduce stress, and heal emotional pain. Create your inner peace by learning techniques that will help you be more present in your daily life.

My approach to therapy is both practical and positive. I work primarily with adults who are looking to make changes in their lives and are unsure of where to begin. I enjoy the process of connecting with my clients, who often experience anxiety/depression, and developing a relationship that supports movement and acceptance. Specializing in addiction and trauma work I incorporate evidence-based strategies to facilitate healing. I have a mind and body approach that I believe promotes patience and encourages understanding to all aspects of a persons life.

Supporting you on your journey of mental, emotional, and spiritual health is important to me. If you are dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, life transitions, marital/relationship issues, parenting/familial issues, or loss, I will partner with you to work towards resolution. I provide an affirming and creative space in which to explore your challenges - aware that we are all perfectly imperfect and striving - and there is hope! "There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." -Leonard Cohen

Hola! My name is Sonia and I am a bilingual trauma therapist, fluent in both Spanish and in English. I am culturally sensitive and have had history in the lower economic side of the spectrum. Because of this, I do my best to reach those that feel misunderstood like I once did. No need to change your language or terminology. Just say what you have to say. Let’s work today for a better tomorrow.

Life can be like a box of chocolates, you never knowing what we will get be it trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, etc... Life isn't always filled with joy and happiness, and that alone can leave a person feeling alone, lost, hurt, and feeling broken; never knowing that healing is not only possible, but allowed. Healing is possible and is allowed. We are allowed to heal and to create a balanced and healthy life. Whether you are wanting to heal from past traumas, experiencing life transitions, or wanting to learn how to balance your life with your partner/family, I am here to assist you along your journey.

A lack of purpose, understanding, and knowledge of one's self can send ripples of negative events in one's life. So, learning, as well as empathizing with that uncertainty, is critical. The goals of change and experiencing are critical.

I accept clients where they are and I help them move in the direction that they would like to go. I listen to what my client's say. I help them to identify the root cause of their discontent and together we create a doable plan for overcoming the obstacle. I have sought counseling for my own issues, and I am grateful to have benefitted from it. I am aware of the apprehension that my clients may experience during the therapeutic process and I will do all I can to make it a pleasent experience.

I believe trusting relationships, creativity, and community are at the heart of inner peace. I offer you a compassionate, empathetic, playful, and non-judgmental space. Trauma influences the body, and brain in complex ways and therefore sometimes in therapy we need to talk, and sometimes we need to pause, move, or create. I am informed by attachment theory, psychodynamic approach, and embrace the relational elements of healing. As a musician, and with music therapy training, I understand the regulatory power of art and invite you to integrate expressive elements. I also offer music-centered and songwriting focused sessions.

My biggest therapeutic success is to incorporate things in my therapy session such as playing games, playing sports, dancing, art, team building, executive functioning, self-esteem checks, charades, role-plays, and music therapy that are so enjoyable to the children that it makes them feel more open and honest to share about the things they want to work on, what they need to work on, but gets them excited to come back each week and learn the skills that they want and need, but have fun while doing it.

I meet children in this work, providing therapeutic support, to help build emotional intelligence and vocabulary, process life events, build self-esteem and self-trust. I am a parent of two children and one Angel baby. My life experience deepens my passion to support parents through challenges beginning in the prenatal period of life.

All of us experience the feeling of being stuck in some way, perhaps frustrated by challenging life circumstances, discouraged by unfulfilling relationships or just generally stirred up by the vague sense that something is just not working. Through the course of my experience, I have come to believe deeply in the power of the therapeutic relationship and the way in which a collaboration with a thoughtful, compassionate and dedicated therapist can be the catalyst for real change.

Everybody deserves a space to feel safe, seen, heard, and respected. Therapy is a possible place for this to happen and I would love to be a part of that journey. Together, we can work through challenging emotions, feelings, thoughts, and social hurdles that come up. My job is to hold space for you and those challenges so that they can be explored without judgement or fear and to remind you that you are not alone when the journey feels lonely. I service teens and adults that are looking to learn more about themselves, grow into their values, and recognize and cultivate the strength that is already within them.

Music Therapy

How does music therapy work?

A music therapist will begin by assessing the client’s specific needs and getting a sense of their musical ability and interests. Musical training is not required, and clients of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy. The therapist will then make a plan for how to achieve the client’s therapeutic goal(s) using a range of receptive (e.g., listening to a song) and active (e.g., drumming in a group) music therapy techniques.

What are some common music therapy techniques?

Music therapy usually involves listening to music (either live or recorded). Music therapy clients may also make music on popular instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and hand drum, or sing. Sometimes music therapy can include guided imagery. A music therapist may ask clients to improvise on the spot or even compose their own songs. Dancing or moving to music can be an effective intervention to help clients feel more fully grounded in their bodies and remain in the present moment.

How does music therapy help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?

Music therapy can be a valuable creative outlet for clients with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who have trouble putting their painful feelings into words. Listening to music can be relaxing while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. In addition to its mood-boosting effects, music therapy can help clients build resilience and overcome PTSD symptoms that may interfere with their daily lives.

How long does music therapy take?

Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes. They can be scheduled in advance (for example, once a week) or can be done on an as-needed basis. Some clients will only require a handful of music therapy sessions to achieve their goals, while others may need months or longer, depending on their specific concern.
