I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Certified substance abuse counselor ( CADC), Certified EMDR clinician, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and I am also trained in Brainspotting.
Engaging in therapy can be a difficult decision for many people. Whether you are going through a life change, or you feel the need to put the past behind, or maybe simply wish to know yourself better, relate to your loved ones better, improve your academic or professional performance, face your fears, overcome a loss, or just wish to learn more efficient ways to deal with life stressors... these are all great reasons to engage in therapy. For me, genuineness, openness, and a non-judgmental approach are essential ingredients to connect with you, support you, and guide you in your journey.

The idea of starting therapy can feel overwhelming. You have taken the first step in finding someone who will be a good fit to help you create the change you've been looking for. My goal as your therapist is to create a safe, compassionate and supportive environment so that we can identify your goals and move towards them. We cannot control everything or the events that occur in our life but we can manage how they impact our lives.

Primarily my work includes treatment of substance abuse, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and self-injury.
"You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore." - William Faulkner. The power of being able to accept and let go the anxiety, challenges, and losses we face can allow our minds the emotional space to grow. By using mindfulness methods, you will be able to practice patience, acceptance, forgiveness, ownership, and kindness towards yourself. Seeking help and allowing yourself to be vulnerable takes such strength and courage. My goal is to help you heal emotionally, mentally, physically, relationally, and spiritually.

My specialties are addiction, trauma, and first-responder behavioral health.
You don't have to be overwhelmed anymore. You do not have to feel hopeless, anxious and depressed all of the time. You do not have to struggle each and every day. If you're not feeling like yourself, I am here to tell you that there is HOPE. I know I am a total stranger right now, so reaching out might feel difficult; but I can help. It may seem near impossible to pick up the phone and arrange an appointment, but it will be worth it.

The clients I assist are working through various life challenges, including depression, anxiety, fear, relationship difficulties, physical health issues, substance abuse, cyber/sexual addiction, co-dependency and abuse.
When you feel safe and supported, then and only then are you able to let your guard down and get in touch with your core issues and feelings. The most important measure of whether therapy will have a positive outcome is the connection between you and your therapist. For this reason, my goal is to create a warm and supportive environment in which you will be respectfully heard, cared about and not judged in any way. My overall approach is conversational, non-judgemental and solution focused with humor and laughter always welcome :)

My passion is understanding stored childhood trauma and the long-term effects it can have on adults; particularly as it relates to addiction issues. Unresolved traumatic experiences very often render a person with feelings of anxiety and depression; particularly for those who were never given the appropriate tools and support to process their trauma. These emotional states can lead to poor coping skills in our efforts to meet life’s challenges, and very often anxiety and depression can lead us to feeling incapable of helping ourselves or ever changing our circumstances and clearly seeing our potential.

I help adults who are struggling with a wide variety of mental health issues including substance abuse, grief and loss, trauma, depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety. It's normal to begin therapy coming from a place of hopelessness. But with the right tools you can experience the transformation from feeling that life is unmanageable to a sense of stability, peace and thriving.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
