Powering through challenging times alone takes a big toll on your mind, body, and spirit. Opening up to friends and family is tricky because they don't really understand or know how to help you. Anxiety and depression creep in as you press forward under the immense weight that you're carrying. Feelings of helplessness and shame consume you when you can't "get over it" or bring about desired changes. There is a gap between where you are and where you want to be. To close that gap, you need a trained professional with the skills to help you breakthrough the difficult emotions and negative self-beliefs that are holding you back.

My philosophy is rooted in 3 pillars of commitment: first is truth, I seek to be a kind and insightful counselor. as such my interactions with clients are candid and honest, it is a core belief that we all need to hear the truth about our actions, our feelings and what we need to do to overcome the issues facing the client. This is reinforced through an experiential element in which the client is given exercises and homework assignments. The second, compassion. The third pillar is taken from the Greek philosophy of a "healthy mind and a healthy body" approach to mental wellness.

"What do you first do when you learn to swim? You make mistakes, do you not? And what happens? You make other mistakes, and when you have made all the mistakes you possibly can without drowning - and some of them many times over - what do you find? That you can swim. Well - life is just the same as learning to swim! Do not be afraid of making mistakes, for there is no other way of learning how to live!" (Alfred Adler) THERAPY to me is Thoughtful, Hopeful, Empathetic, Restoring, Affirming, Powerful, and something You CAN do!

It can feel overwhelming and hopeless when you feel misheard, misunderstood, and as though you're having the same repetitive arguments or running into the same struggles. You are looking to develop healthier relationship patterns, deepen understanding of yourself, build stronger connections with current and future loved ones, and move through past hurts. You want to build a stronger sense of trust within yourself and feel confident that you're acting in alignment with who you truly are. Your needs are important, and you want to start listening to YOU again - or maybe for the first time!

I believe that every person is capable of making the change they desire if they invest in doing so. I also strongly believe in using encouragement and hope-building with all my clients as part of my therapy style, which my previous clients have reported as being helpful and meaningful. I do truly enjoy counseling and want to help each of my clients leave my sessions with increased self-confidence, self-awareness, self-acceptance, and hope.

Holistically-minded, future-focused, out-of-the-box solutions for every concern and situation. I enjoy working with clients who seek change and a future full of possibilities, despite past situations. Clients I work with often need help improving their self-esteem, navigating the intricacies of interpersonal communication, and working through blueprints of the past that are negatively impacting them in the present, working together to build a new future. I often function as a sounding board with the ability to see situations from a different perspective, while offering problem solving, guidance and unconditional regard.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
