The client is the authority about his/her needs and hopes. If we work together I believe we can achieve the goals we agree upon as we come to know each other. I've worked with couples, families, organizations, and friends in resolving relationship issues for 20 years. I believe attachment issues, trauma and disturbing memories influence our sense of self and can effect how we interact and respond or react in all our relationships. Trauma is personal, some examples are the death of a pet, infidelity, death, war, natural disasters, sexual trauma, growing up in a unstable environment.

As individuals we have the miraculous ability to endure, heal and grow, even in the most adverse circumstances and conditions. Oftentimes our various struggles cause us to lose focus and lack the ability to find our strengths, talents and purpose. I consider it a privilege to work with individuals to find clarity and renewed strength facing life’s circumstances.

As a mindfulness based practitioner, I believe an environment of nonjudgmental awareness enables one to stay open to their experience in order to utilize it for transformation. In fact, Temanos means “a safe place for transformation”. I honor people's circumstances, thoughts, feelings and behaviors and value getting to the heart of the matter. Traumatic experiences shape us in known and unknown ways. I help clients find their innate strength, courage and wisdom to face life's challenges.

Accepting New Clients for CBT! - Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers, and their lives. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better life.

You’ve been searching for something, anything to help you. Hoping that just maybe change is possible. You’ve been struggling for a while and it’s like you are drowning. Maybe you are paralyzed by worries. Life might feel dull and pointless. Perhaps something happened to you. Maybe you are overwhelmed with trying to be perfect and meet the needs of everyone but yourself. It feels like everything is falling apart inside even if, to everyone else, you've got it together. Maybe you ask yourself how others can do things so effortlessly when you are trying so hard and it’s still not enough. No one really sees how hard this is for you.

My clients would describe me as “warm, open, non-judgmental, and client focused”. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to hear someone’s story, and meet them on their journey. I spent the past four years in community health specializing in substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment. I am intrigued by trauma and how unresolved trauma affects the body. I am EMDR trained and use this modality to allow the natural healing powers of the brain move toward adaptive resolution of trauma. I also specialize in anxiety, depression, addiction, body awareness, brain spotting, and gender identity.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
