My passion however, is working with those struggling with low self esteem, and aiming to manage their anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
Counseling can be both an exciting and scary adventure kind of like getting on a rollercoaster, delighted for the ride but filled with butterflies. You’re looking for acceptance, and connection. You feel unloved, alone, or fight to understand your emotions. You desire the ability to stand up for yourself, create healthy relationships, and set boundaries. With the ever-growing pressure of societal expectations, you aim for perfection but often fall short of the finish line. The word balance brings hope; you ache for the ability to feel firmly rooted in who you are, gracefully adjust to change, and find steadiness in your thoughts.

My clients struggle with anxiety, burnout, trauma, or how their ADHD shows up in their lives.
I specialize in working with millennial professionals who look like they have their shit together, but in reality are overwhelmed by their anxiety and the weight of feeling like a "failure." Together we can help you dial down the anxiety and impact of ADHD. While we're at it, we can ditch the perfectionism and people pleasing, because your wants and needs are valid. We can even help you learn to accept yourself for who you are, instead of judging yourself based on your productivity.

Do you wonder if a family member is depressed or has a bipolar disorder? Are they overly anxious? Do they hate school or life? Find out what psychological issues are going on so they can be treated. Children can be diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder by age 2. Adults may have autism too.

My niche areas are PTSD, cPTSD, dissociative disorders, childhood trauma, ADHD, autism and other variations of neurodivergence.
As your therapist, I will work from a humanistic approach, which means you are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you move through trauma and ineffective behaviors to more fully understand and respect yourself. This means that I trust your instincts and your body. All of the work we do will be done through a trauma-based lens to encourage self-compassion and challenge shame. Your life going forward doesn't have to be a repeat of your past. We can shift these patterns through becoming fully present in your body and with your emotions. I strongly encourage people to use their intuition to help guide their healing.

While my primary focus lately had been people with ADHD and their loved ones, I feel comfortable treating a wide variety of symptoms and diagnoses.
I love to work with clients across the life span. I have a special interest in working with clients (and their family members) who are neurodivergent. I have experience with a variety of symptoms and diagnoses, and I’m willing to chat with anyone about their needs. While some people know exactly what they need from therapy, it’s ok if you don’t! I’m happy to help you understand your goals and determine what the right treatment is for you.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
