Your symptoms of anxiety, depression, and anger are your body's way of telling you something's not right! As a child, you may have experienced some sort of failure in your relationships or environment. As a child you compensate for these traumas by creating strategies for survival. Maybe you are a perfectionist, or maybe you find that you give more than you receive, or perhaps you just feel disconnected from yourself and everyone around you? The pain you are experiencing is real, and coping with it just isn't working anymore.

“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.” ― Kahlil Gibran ― If you are seeking counseling to discover a better way forward, I am here as supporter and guide but you yourself will be the one who will have all the credit for the growth and improvement made during the process. The client's who get the most out of my services put forth the work and are rewarded by their own progress. And its okay to not know the answers to questions but I'm going to challenge you to find out.

Has life become more bitter than sweet for you lately? Have the solutions you have been trying to make things better just making things worse? Are you feeling lost, overwhelmed, judged, or stuck? You are not alone and while change is not easy, it is worth it. For over 30 years I have helped people find the resilience within them and the support they need to find more joy and productivity in their lives. I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, and Solution-Focused therapies and with the Gottman approach to couples counseling but I mainly try to fit my style to what you need as a client.

A traumatic event, seen or experienced, can trigger lasting symptoms. You feel them in your body. While you can't always identify them, you do know that you feel their effects every day. Panic attacks, nightmares, flashbacks, and more. What you may be experiencing are the symptoms of trauma. They might be sudden and intense, ongoing, new, or stemming from childhood. Either way, their effects can be powerful and life-altering. It's true, some people may feel these symptoms and move forward with a peaceful, undisturbed existence. Unfortunately, for you, “peaceful and undisturbed” feels like it left your life long ago.

Greetings! I am Dr. Stokes, and over the past 25+ years I have worked with clients seeking help with their relationships. I work with individuals and couples. Using a Structural Family Therapy approach, I address the six components of intimacy and help couples build connections across all six. I also incorporate Attachment Theory to address family-of-origin wounds that hinder intimacy. Lastly, because finances are one of the main causes of stress, I have recently added Financial Therapy & Financial Coaching to my skill set. I believe in providing "how to" skills so you feel more confident to handle whatever life throws at you.

I love the counseling that I do. For the last fifteen years I have been a witness to the courage, tenacity, and resiliency of my clients as they strive to improve their personal lives and relationships in their families. I am convinced that much of our life is determined by the lens that we choose to look through. I also believe counselors are most successful when they also have a healthy lifestyle and live the principles that they teach to their clients. I believe that when you meet me that you will find me to be grounded, healthy, and authentic.

I help married couples in distress re-discover their passion for one another, bring peace to their home and reach a new level of relating and enjoying life together. Martin Luther King Jr is attributed as saying "Faith is taking the first step when you can't see the whole staircase." Sometimes taking that first step, like calling or emailing a therapist you've never met, is a bit daunting. But what might happen if you give it a try?

Being deaf, I have a strong desire to help other deaf and hard of hearing people but this doesn't limit me from working with hearing people too. My clients are struggling to fit in in a world that's constantly changing and sometimes seems out to get us all. Clients who come to me are looking for support, knowledge, and growth to counter the challenges of every day life.

Hello, My name is Garrett Price. I do not think of people as sick or broken; I refuse to see others through the lens of disease. You are not your diagnosis, you are not your loss, you are not your thoughts, your feelings, or your actions. You are that which is behind your eyes, a wonderful mystery that is having this experience. This experience, or what we sometimes call life, can be hard, and in difficult times it's helpful to have a path or direction. This is the idea of Trailhead; a place to find a welcoming other, to discover new skills, heal the mind, strengthen the soul, and find a way forward.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
