Through somatic therapies and trauma-informed approaches, I will guide you to develop the ability to be with, and relate to uncertainty, to create new possibilities. When stressful experiences exhaust our physical, mental, or emotional capacities, trauma can develop. Unresolved traumas can contribute to anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and physical pain, profoundly affecting daily life. Exhausting cycles of anxiety or anger, freeze and/or depression/collapse can occur. Gradually increasing capacity and regulation, you will learn to find reassurance, wherever you are, whatever is going on, in this constantly changing world.

Immediate openings-Unique therapy using elements of EMDR, somatic and sensorimotor therapy to treat trauma, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. I will educate you about effects of chronic stress/dysfunction/trauma on the body and brain (racing thoughts, negative thinking, feeling overwhelmed.) You will learn known and unknown triggers by your body/brain reactions. You will learn to quiet your mind and think positively. You will learn new healthy coping skills. You will begin to "feel your feelings" and process them so distressful memories no longer cause psychological/physical distress.

I also provide CBTi to treat insomnia.
To those around you, you may look like you have it all together. But on the inside, you are screaming. You're hiding the obsessive thoughts and "crazy" compulsions you engage in so you can maybe lower your level of anxiety. You can't sleep due to your anxiety. You've tried to make changes, but it never gets better. These are secrets that you think no one will understand.

I am interested in working with anyone that feels they can benefit from therapy. One must want to change in order to be able to change. This is a philosophy I live by, and I intend to apply it in each of my therapy sessions. I am educated with a plethora of counseling theories, and have an open mind when it comes to each client. Everyone is unique, and I will adjust my methods to accommodate each client.

I offer an in depth, diversity affirming approach to psychotherapy. I am passionate about providing clients with meaningful and effective services tailored to each person. My training, experience, and skill-set uniquely qualifies me to work within the intersections of addictions, attachment issues, traumatic experiences, and relationship issues. I engage with clients deeply to allow them to experience life more fully. Many people cover their genuine feelings to protect themselves from pain. All of us have some hard and difficult times in life and we need some help. Although this can be humbling, it usually pays off in the end. I am a very flexible and laid back person and am here to help you with whatever it is you are struggling with. There will be no judgment and we will work on what only you want to work on. I believe there is no magic answer to everything and not everything works for everybody, so it is you and I trying to figure out what works best for you.

I am currently accepting new clients. Are you struggling with trauma, relationship problems, depression, anxiety or fear? I understand how difficult it is to ask for help. Whatever you are going through, you don’t have to deal with it alone. I am here to listen and guide you on a new path. I believe that the body and spirit are important components of healing and can’t/shouldn’t be ignored. I use an integrative approach that includes mind, body, and spirit.

I take trust very seriously. I have always been the person others can confide in and know there is not a risk of judgment. I am proud of that and will understand the gravity of your vulnerability and fear of trust. I'm here to listen to your story, and feel it is important that my clients get an education on the therapeutic process, skill building, training, and accountability.

Seeing clients across Iowa via Telehealth! I have a tremendous understanding of the social, emotional, psychological, and societal impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences, and am aware of the importance of identifying and addressing toxic stress in both children and adults. I am also well-versed on the numerous symptoms of trauma. I understand how these symptoms can perpetuate other secondary effects such as addiction, eating disorders, difficulties with learning and processing information, and building and sustaining relationships.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
