I have 16 years’ experience in social services, including 10 years engaged in adolescent and adult therapy. During that time, I’ve seen first-hand the impact depression, anxiety and trauma can have on child development, marriages, parenting and interpersonal skills in general. My approach to helping improve the connections in people’s lives starts with understanding their needs in a safe, judgement-free environment.

I specialize in working with folks that are struggling with life changes and transitions, often times accompanied with anxiety, depression, or a general sense of overwhelm.
Immediate availability! Life can present a facade of having it all together, yet internally, it can feel noisy, chaotic, and like everything is just...difficult. You have valuable and important aspirations, and it can be a struggle to know where to start. If you are looking to embark on a journey with authenticity, mindfulness, and intentionality, you've found an ally. It won't always be easy, but may bring on moments of invigoration, sparks of joy, and an enhanced ability to deal with life's challenges.

I have experience in dealing with a variety of issues: Depression, anxiety, stress, behavioral concerns, adjustment, grief and loss, work and career issues, addiction and recovery, relationships, identity work, and ADHD.
I believe therapy should be individualized based on each person’s specific needs. My ultimate goal is to empower my clients to change what can be changed and to identify appropriate coping skills to what cannot be changed. I do this by creating a safe, client-centered therapeutic environment that allows the client to identify their individual goals. I believe each person is the ultimate expert in their own lives and I am there to assist them in achieving their personal goals.

Utilizing an interpersonal neurobiology framework I specialize in helping chronically stressed, anxious, and/or depressed adults, often in caregiving positions as parents or human service professionals, find lasting relief from their chronic stress.
How we deal with stress can bring out what seems like the worst in us or help us to learn, grow and thrive. My goal as a therapist is to offer the space to explore your current struggles in a way that helps you learn from your past, in order to find emotional balance and self-acceptance.

I'm passionate about working with adolescents and adults who struggle with a wide range of mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem/self-worth, and emotional dysregulation, just to name a few.
My approach to therapy is based on my belief that no two individuals are exactly the same, and what works for one person might not work for the other. With that in mind, I utilize an individualized therapeutic approach to identify and select the most effective method, to address the specific needs of each client. My work with clients has a firm foundation in person-centered and cognitive-behavioral therapies and frequently incorporates; dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and positive psychology.

I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, stress management, LGBTQIA+ related topics, self-harming behaviors, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, emotion regulation, among others.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults, so you will find that my office consists of many toys and games. I also spend a lot of time at the gym, so I like to advocate for incorporating physical activity into daily routines. Incorporating physical movement in session can be beneficial especially when working with children, but it is not required.

“We do not grow by knowing all of the answers, but rather by living with the questions.” - Max De Pree. “Be curious, not judgmental.” -Ted Lasso These two quotes sum up my approach to therapy, and hopefully, to life. Our brains are naturally wired to make sense of things, to organize information into understandable experiences and thoughts. This relentless pursuit of understanding can lead to new discoveries, new technologies, new medicines. However, it can also lead to stress, burnout, anxiety, and depression. Balance between curiosity and living with the questions is necessary to a life of integrity.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
