My passion is working with children and adolescents who are facing mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, life adjustments, behavioral concerns, and more. I have a special interest in working with children who have experienced trauma in their lives. I enjoy helping them grow and heal from their experiences using techniques from Play Therapy and EMDR. It is my pleasure and honor to assist children and adolescents achieve their therapeutic goals so that they can experience an increased sense of self and confidence in their ability to navigate their internal and external world.

I am a Mental Health Counselor in the state of Iowa. I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa and my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana State University. I have also completed the Training for Adoption Competency presented by the Center for Adoption Support and Education. I have worked with ages 8 to adulthood on issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, PTSD, trauma, stress, foster/adoption, and domestic violence.

I work well with clients whose concerns are related to anxiety, eating disorders, OCD, grief/loss, trauma, mood disorders, depression, perfectionism, and concerns related to identity. I enjoy helping people build skills to more effectively respond to their distress, and to engage in their lives with an increased sense of purpose and awareness of their values. I worked in a college counseling center for 10 years before co-founding a private practice, and work well with people who are making a life transition.

Prior to going into private practice I worked at the Center or Disabilities & Development at the University of Iowa Hospital for 9 years.

My ideal client wants to enjoy their life and relationships more, notices patterns repeated in their lives, is reflective, perhaps insightful. Though many of us were wounded in childhood, few of us have had the opportunity to work through the challenges life presents. I look through the lens of our history and relationships to get under the surface of our symptoms. Our time together will bring relief from worries, fears, stress, low self-esteem & self-blame which greatly constrict our lives. I connect clients . I work with separating & divorcing families, where circumstances are particularly challenging and parents want less stress.

I am passionate about eating disorder recovery and collaborating with patients to find balance in their lives. I am anti-diet and HAES aligned. Heidi is Licensed Independent Social Worker and a trauma informed, EMDR trained therapist. Heidi is skilled in working with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, other mood disorders, interpersonal relationship struggles, grief/loss, and life transitions. As a clinician with over 25 years of clinical experience in a variety of settings, I have extensive experience working with families and individuals across the life span around a host of issues. I am a certified trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapist who embraces a strengths-based, 'person in environment' perspective utilizing EMDR, ACT, cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral and psycho-dynamic approaches to therapy. I also have additional training in Expressive Arts techniques.

It is my privelage to be able to meet with individuals and provide a safe and calm environment where they are able to express their needs and values. I have been a social worker in Iowa City for eleven years, providing private practice counseling for five years. I am trained to help clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, and those coping with life stressors.
