Pain, illness, and trauma can create instability within our lives. Optimal health and healing is more complex than simple mental or emotional wellbeing. At OmniHealing Psychotherapy, I strive for holistic healing involving every aspect of an individual's life - mental, physical, emotional, interpersonal, and spiritual - by harnessing the brain and body's innate ability to heal itself. I believe individuals have the answers within themselves to produce desired change and healing. My job is to help facilitate discovery of those answers and aid in navigating through obstacles to promote healing.

Hello. Do you feel overwhelmed and underappreciated? Does your life feel out of control or unbearable? Having a person who listens without judgement is instrumental to the healing process. No one should go through life alone. A therapist can be an advocate, a cheerleader or even a coach for your life. I welcome you to come and share your burdens with me and we will work out a solution together.

Whether you are experiencing chronic pain or dealing with grief or anticipatory grief, I am here to offer support.
Life’s journey presents a variety of challenges, especially as we transition through its many stages. By the time we reach mid-life, we may find ourselves in the "sandwich generation," caring for both children and aging parents. Perhaps you’re further along in your journey, providing care for a spouse or loved one living with chronic illness or dementia. Or, you may be facing your own health struggles, managing chronic pain, chronic illness, or navigating the natural changes of perimenopause or menopause. You may have reached retirement and are asking, "Who am I now?"

While living in Oregon I enjoyed organizing and managing a very successful behavioral chronic pain management program.
With over 40 years’ experience in the mental health field, I bring a lot of maturity and common sense to your therapy experience. I have worked in various aspects in the mental health field throughout my career that include individual, group, couples counseling, crisis intervention and working with the more persistent and long term mental ill population. My experience also includes individual and program supervision of adult, and child and family therapists.

Trauma comes in many forms. Whether it's the death of a loved one, abuse & violence, DHS involvement, a bad break-up, chronic illness, criminal justice involvement, chemical dependency, or loss of parental rights; experiencing trauma can feel very isolating. You might find yourself feeling detached from others or having difficulty with developing authentic connections with people. Maybe you feel lost and uncertain about how to carry on. Or maybe you're finding yourself lashing out at others with little or no reason. Somedays it can feel like nobody understands your pain or how broken you feel.

I provide a very straight-forward and direct solution focused approach for addressing barriers of life. I understand that sometimes we all can use a safe space to process situations that come along with being human in a sometimes less than humane world. I provide guidance through instructing the use of various breathing exercises, grounding, stabilization, and relaxation techniques to provide clients with tools for minimizing stress responses.

As humans, we are the experts in our lives and experiences, but we long for connection. I believe we can heal our bodies, minds, and souls through movement, a safe place, occasional laughter, nature, music, animals, and sometimes art. I find myself grounded in attachment-based, somatic, trauma-focused care working with ages 3-77+. Interpersonal Neurobiology is a topic I tend to "geek out" on and become excited about. Utilizing mindfulness throughout sessions with adults and as a play therapist, I believe that children communicate and heal through play; I include sensory work, sand tray, attachment-based play, and EMDR to assist all.

Whether you want to repair your relationship or you are seriously considering leaving it, I can help you navigate that process and figure out what is best for you.

Therapy dissects life occurrences and issues and identifies the obstacles that may be limiting personal performance. Once the obstacles are identified, emotional growth can occur through a process of learning to adapt or removing negative thinking. My job, as a therapist, is to support my clients' feelings and thoughts, while at the same time to encourage the transformation of those emotions and thoughts toward the pursuit of a fuller, more satisfying life.

**Currently Accepting New Clients** Mental health is important now more than ever as increased solitude and stress can only heighten symptoms that are already plaguing individuals, couples, and families. It is increasingly important to take the steps necessary to maintain that health through seeking a trusting and empathetic source of support and connection.

Asking for help isn’t giving up. It’s refusing to give up - Charlie Mackesy. However, when things don't improve and life becomes overwhelming, getting help might be necessary. Sometimes people are reluctant to start therapy because they see it as a sign of weakness. It can be difficult to open up and be vulnerable to someone new. I understand this reluctance and I'm here to make this process as easy and as helpful as possible. I will listen to your problems, give you encouragement and teach you the skills you need to improve your life.

Have you had therapy before that has helped, yet after a while the same challenges keep coming back? Have you had trauma therapy, yet got stuck at a certain point? Do you have a strong startle response? Are your relationships presenting challenges that persist in spite of your best efforts? Have you suffered a painful loss? Are you at a transition point, keenly aware that your present actions will lay a foundation for the rest of your life? Maybe you just want to get it right the first time?

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
