Humanistic Therapists in 93101
Now that you have PTSD from drowning in a sea of therapist marketing profiles, I’m here to help! Hit me up if you’re a high conflict couple and you’re fighting too much, or an individual and you’re fighting with (parts of?) yourself (or others?) in your head too much. I’m foundationally " humanistic-existentialist", meaning I join you on your journey with curiosity/authenticity/empathy, and help you become more confidently you through a relational process. But I'm trained in lots of acronyms: Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

My practice is informed by relational, psychoanalytic, decolonial, existential, and humanistic frameworks.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a space to understand the complexities of who you are and what brings you to the session room. My aim as a psychotherapist is to provide a uniquely honest and secure environment to support your sense of meaning and creativity amongst life's challenges. I see psychotherapy as both an art and science that is best fostered through building trust between clinician and patient.

My approach draws on existential and humanistic traditions, as well as somatic practices that integrate the body and the mind.
Being human can be wild, messy, beautiful, and painful. Whatever has brought you to therapy, it has taken courage and belief in yourself to arrive here. I honor your commitment to your own healing and growth. Suffering is part of the human condition, but there is no reason to suffer alone. Whether you're dealing with anxiety or depression, loss or overwhelming change, or stress due to work, family, or intimate relationships, therapy can help shift your perspective, clarify your deepest values and life goals, identify unhelpful thought patterns, and transform your experience of life.

Therapy is not something I "do" to you; it is a collaboration and conversation we have together. I look forward to walking beside you as you access a place within that feels more like home. There is no one way to move toward healing. I use an emotionally-focused (EFT), humanistic and somatic understanding while keeping the very human need for attachment and relationship at the heart of our work together. Many clients feel and notice a shift toward increased authenticity, flow, ease and joy in their lives after working together. Now accepting couples.

I practice from a humanistic theoretical approach to support clients in creating healthy social, interpersonal, vocational/professional, or academic functioning.
Currently accepting new clients aged 12 years and older. I offer sessions Monday - Thursday 8am to 5pm. The human condition is filled with interactions, exchanges, and events that can lead to debilitating stress, lack of focus, despair, and a sense of total loss. These adverse experiences do not define us, but they can lead to the development of maladaptive thoughts, and behaviors. I look at your transgenerational resilience and foster growth, healing, and recovery. My main objective is to support you in the various stages of change, with my professional & human skills. I look forward to joining you on your journey.

-- I Provide Telephone Therapy & Videoconference Sessions -- I work best with motivated adults who are committed to working on clearly identified psychological and relationship problems. My clients have tried to solve issues on their own but eventually recognize a need for professional assistance. They realize that therapists have no magical quick cures and that treatment takes courage, persistence and risk-taking. My clients learn that seeking help is a strength, not a weakness. They develop trust in the therapeutic relationship and make lasting gains. I honor each one.

To be happy and free of suffering ... this is the experience of effective therapy. When we're witnessed, deeply understood and guided to our true self, the challenges of being human can become magical. Blending multiple clinical orientations I work with the client's whole being - mind, body & spirit - to discover his/her own unique truths and capacities. Because so much of who we are is a function of our relationships, I gravitate toward couples, families and groups, teaching people how to relate to themselves and each other with refreshing honesty and authenticity.

I am trained in Family Therapy and although not always the case, therapy often moves faster when you are willing to include other family members as a part of therapy at some point. It helps me understand you in the broader context of the people that are important to you or have influence in your life. I have been married for 34 years and have three adult children so my personal experience often informs me, along with my training and the expertise I have gathered being a part of The Family Therapy Institute.

Is talk therapy just not working for you anymore? Feeling frustrated at the subtle gnawing pain that keeps haunting your soul? Is something in the way of your full potential and life purpose from blossoming? Is that unknown void hijacking your life and dreams? You seem to have tried it all with little to no success and you are just fed up? Feeling stuck, you question yourself, your life, or your capabilities. Drifting, no land in sight, you need a compass to guide you home to yourself. The good news, I’ve navigated this journey and understand it well. And I am here for you and to support you. Are you here because you feel called? Perhaps you’re looking to explore unlived potential, let go of patterns that no longer work, or process something that’s been on your mind for as long as you can remember. At the same time, you may feel stuck, anxious, ambivalent, or even resistant. Answering the call to live an examined life is a courageous act. Further, neuroscience has proven we all have the capacity for change, regardless of age. I’m here to act as a guide and accompany you on your journey; to listen deeply, to hold space for you, and to ask meaningful questions that empower you to awaken and embody your own inner healer.

Humanistic Therapists
How does humanistic therapy work?
One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.
Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?
Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.
How long does humanistic therapy last?
The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.
Is humanistic therapy effective?
According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
