After receiving my Doctorate degree from the University of Virginia in 1973, my family and I relocated to Wilmington, NC. I have been in full time private practice since 1981 and an integral part of the psychology community. My personality traits include sensitivity, compassion, and an active sense of humor. Nevertheless, no therapist is right for everyone, and I encourage new patients to have 3-4 sessions with any counselor before judging whether there is a connection. If we connect, great. If not, I am happy to assist patients in finding healthy and appropriate therapists suitable for them.
My primary approach to therapy is cognitive behavioral. For the past twenty years, I have specialized in forensic psychology particularly as it relates to child custody/visitation and divorce adjustment issues. I am comfortable appearing in court and testifying in difficult family matters.
In the 90's I was instrumental in bringing divorce mediation to the New Hanover County court system. I have been married over 50 years to Gail, a retired school guidance counselor, and have two adult children, Kevin and Kimberly. Kimberly has joined her dad as an associate at Human Growth & Training.
