"The day came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." --Anais Nin. When people migrate to a different culture from their own, they may experience significant stress and anxiety. Culture Shock is a term used to describe the stress and anxiety one feels in a new culture. As a result of the challenges and cultural shock they experience, a person may feel sad, lonely, angry, lost, and confused.
In addition to specializing in acculturative stress and difficulties related to immigration,I also specialize in working with individuals experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety and grief. For the past four years I have been working with diverse populations, providing therapy to adults, adolescents and children who have experienced severe trauma.
I work from a strengths-based perspective assisting individuals to build their inner strengths and overcome hardships in life. By using holistic approach, empathy, trust and understanding, I provide supportive therapy to mobilize hope, empower individuals and ultimately improve their quality of life. I am Amharic speaking counselor.
