We all experience challenging and sometimes overwhelming periods in life. While turning to friends, family, or faith is often helpful in navigating life's paths, we also benefit from a trained ear that can listen from the outside. Therapy is a safe place for exploration; a journey towards more fulfilling relationships, a greater sense of emotional, mental & spiritual well-being as well as increased self-esteem. Our work together will provide you with the support, guidance and the tools you will need to reach your goals.

Greetings and welcome to Path! My name is Kristien Hollingsworth. I would like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read my profile. I understand seeking out a therapist can feel tedious, and in some cases, anxiety provoking. Evidence has shown the method of therapy is far less important than the relationship with your therapist. If you do not feel like you can openly share what you are experiencing or have been through in your past, therapy with that individual will be a waste of your time and money.

Are you tired of anxiety, trauma, and/or body image issues affecting your relationship with yourself, others and the world around you? Does any of these sound familiar? Despite the amount of things you try to change and control to get enough sleep at night, your mind is constantly racing and difficult to turn off. You promised yourself that you wouldn’t snap at your family but you did. You struggle to manage your emotions. Or it’s hard for you to look at yourself in the mirror or take photos of yourself because you don’t like what you see. You want to take your power back and break free from the control of your feelings.

On the outside, it seems as if you have it all together. But inside, you are struggling with imposter syndrome. Your list of things to do continues to grow, but it seems as if there are never enough hours in the day. You know you should prioritize yourself and your health, but everything and everyone else’s needs seem to dominate your time, energy, and efforts. At the end of the day, you sometimes don’t recognize yourself in the mirror. Your best efforts don't seem to be enough and it’s impacting you and those you love. You want things to get better, but you don’t even know where to start.

I am Bethany Andrews, Licensed Mental Health Counselor in both Hawaii and Washington. My background is in Wilderness Therapy with 15 years of private practice mixed in. My style tends to be direct and encouraging. My primary modality is Relational Therapy. That said, I have several other theoretical approaches that I use depending on what is needed, such as Gestalt, Parts Work, Trauma Relief, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, Brain spotting, Art, and more. I typically work with people struggling to thrive. I see people with a range of issues and believe one of the most important pieces for healing is that we are a good match.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
