My primary training for being a psychologist was growing up in my own dysfunctional family. After many spiritual groups and a couple years in India with Ram Dass, I finally returned to school to finish my doctorate. I have trained in a number of mind/body therapies (EMDR, Brainspotting, Bioenergetics, Process Acupressure, Somatic Experiencing), since it is my experience that just talking about one’s problems do not usually allow one to make a deep shift. I know that making the decision to enter into therapy can be a difficult one. I have great respect for individuals, couples and families that make the choice to begin therapy and start or continue their healing process. It takes courage to seek out support when we are experiencing symptoms related to internal or external conflict. I believe our symptoms are gifts inviting us to explore more deeply our connection or lack thereof to ourselves and others and provide opportunity for growth. I see myself as a facilitator in your understanding of the meaning of these messages in order to enable healing. Sometimes these signs present themselves as uncomfortable or painful experiences such as shame, blame, loneliness, pain, anger and anxiety.

When you have stress or trauma in your life, it can feel overwhelming and life can unravel. These are all stressful family situations that can feel overwhelming to anyone. My passion is to bring healing to people who have been through traumatic or stressful experiences.

With 20 years of experience in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy, I am one of the few Japanese-English bilingual, Marriage and Family Therapists in the State of Hawaii. I provide therapeutic services to adults and children with a systemic focus on intercultural relationships, teenagers and their family systems, and preventive care for mothers in various stages of their motherhood. I have led Mauli Ola Care, a private psychotherapeutic practice since 2008 and have also provided clinical supervision for post-graduate therapists for their MFT licensure.
