Do you ever feel misunderstood and emotionally stressed; or have you been affected by unexpected life situations (such as Covid 19)? It may be time to talk about some of these stressors in your life. Going through a pandemic and facing natural life challenges can be overwhelming to adults and adolescents. Remotely working and going to school from home has taken us to a point of limited socialization and staying in the confines of our homes to stay healthy. Changes can be difficult for anyone and the uncertainty of this pandemic can be trying and I would like to help.

Choosing a therapist is a lot like dating (not in a creepy way). You meet for the first hour and you have a good sense of whether you might want to get coffee with them again. I am looking for people who are dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, trauma and more. Together, we will figure out your goals in therapy and how to meet them. Using a combination of active listening, skill building, and different therapeutic modalities, we will work together to improve your quality of life.

Feeling depressed or anxious? Having family or work problems and don't know how to make things better? I work with clients on finding ways to bring hope and purpose into their lives. As a wife and mother of adult children, chances are I've been through many of the same challenges you're currently facing. I have first hand knowledge of how difficult life can be but also how rewarding.

Everything changed with your child's autism diagnosis. In a moment, your clear vision for their future became murky and unknown. And all the plans you’d made were instantly turned upside-down. You try to talk to friends and family about what you’re going through, and they offer well-meaning advice, but they just don't get it. How could they know how isolating and challenging it is to navigate a world that doesn’t understand your or your child’s needs? You want so badly to give your child their best shot at a bright and successful future, but you’re simply not sure how to help them. You don’t think you can do this alone any longer.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
