Do you find that there are unhelpful patterns in your life that you keep repeating? Maybe it's multiple unhealthy relationships, or self-sabotaging behaviors. Do you struggle with an unrelenting inner critic that makes every perceived failure feel catastrophic? Perhaps you're in the midst of a big change or transition in your life and you're struggling to adjust. You're most likely looking for a therapist who is warm and compassionate, who understands your specific struggle, and is able to help you make sense of the swarm of thoughts circling in your head.

We all get stuck at times and it can be quite difficult to navigate overwhelming circumstances and stressors alone. I work with all demographics but place greater focus on on men's issues. My approach is to build a comfortable and relational environment where each person can be real, regardless of their unique struggle.

As you transition from childhood to adulthood it can feel incredibly overwhelming. Navigating school, anxiety, family relationships, friendships, trauma, and all the other stressors that life throws at you can feel impossible to take on alone. Adding in the stressors that can come with finding your true identity or navigating difficulties with attention can make it even harder. Maybe you're a teen trying to navigate the social stressors that come with this stage of life, or a young adult trying to make your way in the world.

Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of your list? Do you wonder if life should feel better? Happier? More fulfilled? Do you long for more connection in your romantic relationship? Has your relationship been ruptured by betrayal or infidelity or have you grown apart? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their lives, relationships and careers. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself and your relationships can lead to long term issues for your mind and body.

Sometimes life can feel like a rollercoaster that we somehow can’t seem to exit, don’t know how we got on it in the first place, and are then having to white knuckle it as best as possible. That is why I went into this field to not only learn tools to help others work through challenges, but also provide a space to feel safe, seen, and fully understood without judgement. My goal as a therapist is to walk alongside you, help you grow, and help curate security with yourself, your relationships, and feel more emotionally balanced.

Forrest Gump may have compared life to a box of chocolates, but I find it's more like a box of IKEA furniture: You open the thing up, only to find you're missing three bolts and the instructions. The good news is you already have the most important thing necessary to take on life - you! If you think therapy might be a good option for you, you've come to the right place. If you don't know if therapy is a good option for you, you've still come to the right place!

Maybe a major event stoked your search for therapy. Maybe the build up of daily life stressors leaves you feeling stuck. Maybe you're experiencing changes in your support system. Regardless of where you’re at in your journey, you deserve the space to listen to that internal voice asking for your attention. I believe it's your internal wisdom bringing you to therapy.

Across the prairies of our country when a storm is approaching, cattle can be seen running away, which only elongates their discomfort. Buffalo on the other hand, can be seen turning and charging into the storm. As a result they reduce their duration of suffering and make it to clear skies sooner. My goal is to connect with individuals and couples who are navigating the storms of life and help them become the best versions of themselves. I utilize a warm and casual style that facilitates an environment of trust and support, allowing clients space to build effective skills and develop resiliency for the inevitable storms ahead.

The opening of Dante's Inferno reads "Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost." This story of a person's journey through hell became a classic because all of us have found, at one time or another, that the straight path in our lives has been lost, and that we are alone in a dark forest. Do you feel lost? When we look a little closer, we begin to understand that most of the darkness around us is self-created. That forest was cultivated with the seeds of our past experience.

I have spent a majority of my career working with children and adolescents, I also see adults that are having difficulty managing symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as relational issues. When working with children/adolescents, I place great emphasis on the relationship and communication in order to reduce behavioral symptoms.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Spokane?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
