My specialties include Substance Use Issues, Teen Issues, Issues of Gender and Sexual Orientation, Family Systems, Professional Guidance and Development, Anxiety, and Depression.
Sometimes life takes some unexpected turns. Maybe you don't know how you got to where you are or you want to head in a different direction. Whether you need to get back on track, find a track, or just need someone to listen, therapy or coaching can be a helpful tool in getting there. I work with clients to help them find their strengths and develop achievable goals. There is no shame in seeking input and guidance outside of your own brain and experience.

I believe in people. I believe in our resilience, our power, and in our capacity for change. I love being a witness to those beautiful light bulb moments where we recognize the truth about ourselves and start living with more purpose and resolve. I love helping people find those solutions within themselves - I know they are there! As a former Substance Use Disorder Counselor, I could see how clients were desperately seeking a way to cope with deep trauma. I wanted to dive deeper. I wanted to help others get to the root of their problems.

Experiences include working with high-risk adolescent behaviors, family conflict, couple/marital concerns, affair recovery, parenting/co-parenting skills, family court/probation, coping skills with aggression and substance use, suicidal behaviors, and crisis management.
*Accepting new clients* "You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them." -Dr. Maya Angelou. We have all experienced feeling “stuck” in our lives at some point. Whether it be in school, work, personal relationships and family, it’s difficult sometimes not knowing how to move forward. Feeling stuck is more a circumstance and doesn't have to be a choice. Together we can make necessary changes to build a healthier and better life.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
