When we grow up in dysfunctional families, we learn skills to deal with difficult situations that were helpful in the past but that may no longer serve us, like shutting down or exploding when we're upset, conflict avoidance, having trouble asking for what we want or need, people-pleasing, perfectionism, numbing with phone scrolling or substances each night...the list goes on. My ideal clients are adults who have had challenging life experiences and who are hoping to gain insight into how their pasts are impacting them in the present. I help clients to address harmful behaviors, heal from trauma, and create a beautiful life.
I am warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental in my work with clients. Through a psychodynamic, attachment-based lens, I help clients process and move forward from early experiences of abuse, neglect, instability, or simply living with adults who had a hard time controlling their emotions or moods. I am trained in EMDR and incorporate this when appropriate.
I'm not a therapist who will stare at you silently and nod occasionally; I'll be getting in there with you, talking about anything you need to (I've heard it all!) from work & relationships to sex and strange bodily functions. Some of our work will feel serious, and we'll also laugh a lot. I hope to create a safe space where you can put it all on the table.
