I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I have been working with children, adolescents, adults and families for over thirty years. My specialty is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). I offer individual, couples, and family therapy to all age groups. I also am trained in school psychology. I consult frequently with educators, physicians, nurses, clergy, attorneys and judges on child and family matters. I have extensive experience helping families with divorce and reunification issues. I am an experienced court-appointed parent coordinator and child custody evaluator. I also treat adolescent and adults with substance abuse issues.
I graduated from Dartmouth College in 1976, and the University of Texas at Austin in 1985. Early in my career I worked for the Alexandria City Schools as a school and clinical psychologist for seriously emotionally disturbed and behaviorally disordered children. Before becoming a psychologist, I was an elementary school teacher and a professional musician.
In 2009, I was named by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the area's best therapists as rated by my peers, especially for adolescents. I have also coached youth sports extensively in the VA/MD/DC area. My dog, Beauregard, is often in my office assisting with therapy. My current focus is helping children manage their fears regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
